I would go for the Panasonic, no doubt. It is a wonderful tv.

Don't know anything about the Sharp, but a friend has that Panasonic, and it is a fantastic TV.

Recently had the same decision. Went with the Sharp because the Pannys were out of stock but I took back the Sharp when they were back in stock. Honestly either way, you will be happy. I don't have HD yet so I can't tell much of a difference in PQ between the 2. One plus for the Sharp is the looks. It is one of the best looking tvs I have seen. The Pannys are a bit ugly. I have always loved plasmas so that was also a deciding factor among everyone else on this forum too.

I would do the Panny. It is a Plasma (Plasmas come in 50" and LCDs come in 52") and I think you will be very happy with it. You do know how to break it in, right?

I'm gonna agree when you say Panny's are ugly looking tv's. But Panasonics provide some of the best PQ I've seen in tv's. If I were to buy a tv based on looks it would be Samsung all the way.

Is Sharp considered a "second tier" brand?

Is Sharp considered a "second tier" brand?

Yes. They make reliable products, but their TV sets lack the picture quality that Panasonic, Samsung and Sony TVs have. They ALWAYS look washed out to me, even after I've tried messing with numerous models tweaking them to look better. Sharps IMO are perfect for a sunroom actually, so bright.
