Shadows in Vizio VW32L

So I decide to watch some TV (without a trace was on ABC) and noticed that some black details were indistinguishable. I also notice this on CSI miami, especially when characters wear black suits and the rooms are dark. Is this a problem where my TV's black levels stink, or is the programming itself? The reason I ask is that other channels and shows I normally watch look fine, but then again most of those shows aren't particuarly dark. I need to know this soon...if the black levels itself is the problem, I still have a few days left on my return policy.

I don't have a good reference TV unfortunately so i was hoping someone can check this out for me on their set.

I have the same TV. If you got to the settings there is a option for a black level extender, turn it on. Also, check what you brightness is at. Mine is 50 and works fine. If you look online there are some good settings.

Actually, you should turn the black extender to OFF and that will help to eliminate the black crush. Then you should get a calibration disc and adjust the picture controls to solve any remaining issue with this and also to get the best PQ possible.

I know some of these shows tend to be on the darker side when indoor shots are on screen and that helps to hide the cheaper props used on TV shows compared to high budget movies. ;)

I noticed the same thing on my Vizio 42" LCD when I first got it last summer. At first, I thought it might be a problem with the TV, but I noticed everything was fine, except with my local ABC outlet. Lately, reception from this channel has improved, as they have upgraded to HD, so I am assuming it was the quality of their transmission.

Do you see the problem with other channels as well?

Absolutely the best solution.
