HD DVR/retention?

I have had connection issues with Directv for the past 16 months. 5 months ago I called in and was going to cancel my service because they just couldn't fix my issue. I was transferred to the retention center. I wasn't trying to get anything free I just wanted my service to work properly and thought I needed to switch to cable for that to happen.

The rep on the phone convinced me to stay with directv and assured me my problem would be fixed. I also added a 3rd receiver in my sons room. Anyway at least 4 different techs tried to to fix my connection. I was so frustrated after about two months I called back and told them to cancel my service and they informed me that I agreed to a 2 yr contract when my sons box was added to my account. Although they haven't got it working yet. I suck it up and wait for another tech....The 5th tech comes out and finally got it working. Everything is working fine! One week later the box (sons)I added stop connected. Once again they send out 4 different techs for this issue. Still to this day I get no signal. I have another tech coming out next week.

My question is, considering all I've gone through do you think directv would not charge me the fee for the HD DVR $200? I currently don't have HD service, but recently purchased a new TV and thought about purchasing the HD service.

They have gave me some credits over the past few months, but I haven't asked for anything. Once my issue is fixed I'm going to call the retention center and see if they can replace my current DVR with a HD DVR. Anyone think this is possible?

Only way to find out is to call them. It never hurts to ask. Maybe you can use unsolved issues as leverage? One thing to remember is if you do get a box upgrade, you will restart your two year commitment.
