Any good Circuit City deals yet?

The website is still in "closed" mode, and the nearest store to me is in "The Valley", so I can't just up and go check one out. Has anyone seen any good deals on TV's? I know they jacked up their prices then put them on "sale".

Be wary about Circuit City or any other retailer's "Going out of business" sales.

There is a guy on talk radio named Clark Howard that gives excellent information for the consumer. The other night he was commenting on the so called "liquidation sale" at Circuit City. I copied this from his website:

"Failing business like Circuit City put their assets up for bid and a third-party liquidation firm comes in to handle the going out of business sale. These liquidators are experts at creating the illusion of a deal. Normally, they bring in "fake" merchandise that was never in the store before and jack up the prices just to mark them down."

If you go to his website clarkhoward.com, you will find a lot of useful info about how to save money, scams, etc.

Honestly, the prices are still not that good in comparison to what you could probably find at BB, Sears, or even online. Maybe a deal or two here and there, but I highly doubt it. They actually did increase the % off on TVs from 10 to 20% today at my local store (SouthWestern CT). CDS/DVDS/BRs are 25% off now, games are 20% off now, cameras are 20% off now. I dont know about the rest of the stuff. I've been looking at printers, but they were still 10% off today. I might wait a bit more as I bought a PS3 game and a BR movie on Tuesday but now wish I waited the extra couple days. Ah well...

Joe

Did you get a PS3 or are you sure that they have any left. I too am looking for a PS3 so I went to 2 local CC's and all of their game systems (except PS2s & Game Cubes) were gone. I asked a sales person about it and he said because they aren't supposed to mark them down that they got sent back to the manufacter, this also includes IPods. So if your store still has them I would snatch them up.

New ads are on TV all day today saying "Prices on all TVs have been slashed again, our entire stock of Plasma TVs is now 25% off".

I have to wonder how high these liquidation crooks marked them up before taking that 25% off . . . .

I went earlier today. Surprisingly, they had a Sony 46" W4100 and a 52" W4100 bundle deal minus the 25%, but other then that, the 25% was off the list price and some of the tags already had the discounts applied in the price, and it was still a complete joke.

OK I have been watching the prices there pretty closely and while I havent been there in a week now by ME they did NOT RAISE the prices they went back to what the sticker on their shelves were and DVD's and Blu-Rays went to the prices already marked on the boxes nothing got marked UP.

I have been reading this a lot that they RAISED THEIR PRICES when it all reality thats not true at all they didnt raise them however they werent on sale or anything can you find better deals elsewhere? OF course im not saying go buy there the prices are great cause yes you can find better prices but no they didnt raise their prices.

In my area we have two Circuit City's. I have gone to both the past two days. I was looking at 4 or 5 different flat screen TV models. Circuit City was the highest of all 6 stores I researched. Three of the models were at least $300 higher than the other stores. Not to mention the sales are final. I would stay away until maybe the last week the store is open.

They did raise prices on tv's and computers. It is raised up to MSRP. I worked there for 6 years and left when the liquidation started.

For example: Before the liquidation "sale", the SON KDL46Z4100 sold on sale for $1499.99. I was just in there on Thursday and the same tv is on "sale" for 1849.99 after discount. The SON KDL46V4100 is discounted to only $1359.99. At the location closest to me they still have 25 of those in stock. They have sold very few tv's thus far besides older stock from the warehouse.

The only deals I would say is worth it is video game systems and games. I would wait until tv's go to 40-50%. Keep in mind, they want to try to get out by March 21st.

See I look at it differently then cause fine it may be at the MSRP's BUT every place shows that price and then has a SALE the 2 TV's I was watching there didnt go "UP" in price they are at Sears and Best Buys "normal" non sale price so how is that RAISED up? Its NOT on sale fine I understand that but on certain TV's when they arent on sale that week they are at the MSRP last week they may have been $500 less or next week at $300 less either way that is the STARTING point not RAISED up in prices.

I was watching the same TV's for quite awhile at CC, BB, and Sears and while at some they were on sale this week they may not have been at another store but they were last week. I saw the prices when they werent on sale and it isnt any HIGHER. So NO they did NOT Raise their prices its just that nothing is on sale.

And while yes I COMPLETELY agree with you unless you are getting 50 plus % off then its not worth it I still disagree with people stating the prices were RAISED. Yes you can find better deals elsewhere in stores that are NOT closing and have return policies.

My basic point is this not EVERYTHING is on sale ALL the time at one point or another it was at this "HIGH" price and while yes they had "SALES" that had better deals than their "SALES" now but same thing with anywhere you go. One place a TV might be $1599 this week next week $1699 the week after that $1299 BUT the NON sale price was ALWAYS $1999.

I was in there today and they have blu-ray DVD's for 25% off and the tv's are stupidly expensive even with the 20% off. They really expect people to just buy things without even checking BB which in my city is 3 minutes away from CC. I told 4 people to go to best buy to get what they wanted because they are still selling for $100-200 less after CC's stupid 20% off. Their recievers are still really expensive too.

I can say people must NOT do research cause well A LOT of TV's were gone from one of the CC's by me and with BB RIGHT across the street and then Sears a few miles up the street they shouldnt be getting as much business as they had! It took me longer to park than it did me looking around in the damn store!

Also you mentioning receivers quite a few of those AND speakers were gone also!

I heard a few people calling people on the phone raving about TV prices and I just had to look and laugh there was a TV there that was cheaper there than at BB but only buy $50 it was $1549 at CC and $1599 at BB BUT its only $1399 at Sears!

Some DVD's and CD's are good prices at the 25% off but I would rather go to the used store and buy them even cheaper than wait in line for probably an hour how crazy the store was.

I have a friend that works there part time and he said to definately look and research before you buy because the deals arent really that good!

I also went and was disappointed! I agree, they didnt raise the prices they just bumped evrything back up to MSRP and then are taking the discounts off of those!! People are stupid when it comes to these things!! The uniformed consumer just see's the percent off and goes nut's over it. I think the only thing I got worth while was a Nyko blu wave remote for PS3 for 9.99 after discount. I was really hoping to pick up a sub or good center channel, but even with the discounts they still were higher than best buy or online etailers!! By the time it gets done to the end, most of the good stuff is gone anyway.

I remember when a reatil store chain called Lechmere had liquidators come in like this, and one woman bought TWO computers because she thought they were such a bargain back then when in reality, they were STILL more expensive than anywhere else, because they only discounted off the MSRP which that store never sold things for (probably why they went bye bye long before CC). A salesman was telling me that a week before the liquidation "sale" that they sold it for a regular price of about $200.00 less than what she paid for each of them.

Liquidators COUNT ON consumers not being smart shoppers and just looking at the percentages off number alone and HOW they make tons of money with no headaches of returns since all sales are final.

you are correct-i have also visited CC a few days ago and find their advertising very misleading, as they are trying to trick you into thinking that their prices are a continuation of the prices at CC-in most cases, CC was selling below msrp. so as everyone has been pointing out, 15% off via the liquidators might be where CC was in the first place. everyone has to realize-CC is gone-the buildings that CC was in has nothing to do with CC any more-these are liquidators-they are not interested in making you happy, they will not take a return, and they will scam you if they can-they don't care. let me say this-if all of you who are now running into the old CC buildings to get a deal did so over the last few months, they would still be in business, and 35,000 people would have their jobs. it is a joke to see the people rolling out their flat screen tvs into the parking lot, paying more than they would have paid a month ago, and giving up the ability to return the product. like a bunch of vultures.....

I am getting CC ads by e-mail almost every second day. I am VERY price conscious and their "going-out-of business" prices are HIGHER than TARGET or BJ's.
Thinking their customers are fools is probably part of the reason they are in bankruptcy.

I had a manager at CC last night tell me just how dumb everyone was/is he said there are only a FEW items he recommended to people cause they were a good deal one being a Harmony 880 remote cause it was only like $80, and then a few of the "cheaper" DVD's the $6.99 titles which he said even those are iffy at best.

I can say that I am mighty shocked how busy that place is on the weekends employees there have told me they are A LOT busier than even on Black Friday.

And I agree and also disagree with you docjackson, I agree that people should do their research and that people are dumb and here 10-25% off and they are like OMG BEST DEAL EVAR!! However I dont think that all these people even going over the last few months to CC would have "saved" them they were going downhill for awhile and while yes 1000's of people are going in and buying but plenty of people (such as myself) havent bought anything and just checked out the prices.

This is NOT CC selling these TVs. It is a liquidating company running these liquidation "sales". They know what they are doing since they know uninformed people just see the percentage off and think it is a great bargain despite being more money in many cases and having no return policy even if the set is DOA out of the box.

Nope cant haggle with them trust me I tried and tried again only way you could haggle would be with the liquidator people themselves so IF they were around you could try it however they never were when I was there. And even if they were I still think slim chance as one of the Managers told me they dont care about cutomers and if you dont buy it someone else will, they are there to make money not please anyone but themselves.

I was just by one last night and a different one today the one last night was pretty well cleaned out except for a lot of computer stuff the other one about the only thing mainly gone is CD's, DVD's, and BluRays still watching the prices on some stuff but eh not really too enthused about anything there anymore now would be a good time to get an Xbox360 from them though $300 for the Elite, $225 for the Pro, and then $150 for the Arcade not bad prices there. They have ONE PS3 left by me but its an open box and they still want like $300+ for it which I dont think its worth it considering I have heard that Sony MAY be dropping their prices within the next month or 2...

Hmmm? They are there to make money and I cant blame them too bad there are so many suckers out there :haha: But I do agree MAJOR items werent that great of prices sure maybe I could have found a digital camera for like $10 bucks cheaper but well I would rather pay the $10 more for a store thats going to be there...

Where are you located?
Here in NYC, PC Richards sells the PX80u just under $600 all day and I just grabbed a PZ80u for $790 last week.
Some stores are out of stock, but others have plenty.

I don't think there's much really going on at CC by way of deals on major items.

I live in Louisville, those are out of stock most places here and only Sears (out of stock) has the cheaper price.
However, I talked to a guy I know who works for BB here in town and he said he thinks he can get them to price match the CC price. I would much rather buy from a place that has NOT gone under.

Alright, so I finally pulled the trigger on a Panny TH-42PZ80U at CC. Paid $909 for it. It was the best price in town and the only place with any left in stock. I didn't really want to have it shipped.
Just got it home and hooked up about 10 min ago so trying to break-in, hope im doing it right.
Thoughts on CC...the poor souls still working there are useless, as expected. Couldnt get anyone to help me, finally find a guy who tells me he is getting ready to go on break. He eventually sends someone to help me who seems terribly annoyed that I want to buy a TV. I ask him if I can hook up the TV before I pay/leave to be sure it works and he says yes. So I pay him and he directs me to pick-up and says they will help me test the set before we load it up. I walk over there to find an angry customer yelling at an employee about something. Once again everyone I see says they are on break.

Finally I get someone to go get the TV but seems unsure about testing it out for me. I hear another guy whispering that they dont do that (he doesnt think I hear him). I quickly tell him that the guy who sold me the TV assured me I could test it first. He was caught off-guard and just walked away.

The guy brings the TV but carts it all the way back to the guy who sold it to me and makes him open it and plug it up. Salesguy is obv pissed but opens the TV, plugs it up and turns it on.
"see, works just fine" he says. They box it back up and take it out to my truck where they guy wants to lay it down face first. I quickly tell him we will NOT be laying down and that I will take it from there.

As cart guy walks back in I hear another guy telling him we cant be testing TVs for everyone and that he should have told me to forget about it.

Boy that sounded like a fun event. I just would have gone to BB and paid $90 more without all that crap and have the option to exchange if a problem arose. Have fun with your new set and remember just to keep the picture and brightness at 50 or below for the first 100-200 hours. Enjoy:yippee:

It was a bit of a hassle but Im glad I made them do it. I wanted to go to BB but they didnt have one in stock. I checked all the stores within 200 miles. But, its mine now and I love it.
