I have a SA 8300HD cable box/dvr and my cable provider is Time Warner. We had a technician come yesterday and fix this, now the side bars are back and can't fix it. The manual said to hit "Settings" twice to bring up "General Settings", I tried that and it didn't work. Any suggestions?

So you are trying to "zoom" the HD channels? If so I dont mess with my cable box anymore (I have the same one and also time warner) If I want to get rid of the bars on HD content I just use the TV to zoom with. But if you want to get into those settings you just hit the settings button ONCE then go over to display.

Press settings twice to bring up the general settings. Find the Set:Picture Format option. Choose the passthrough or auto DVI setting. Switch to a HD channel, then back to SD. You should now have full screen video.

You might also need to configure the box for your TV. Turn off the box, then on the front of the box press guide and info at the same time to bring up the HDTV setup wizard. Just follow the prompts to select the proper settings (4:3 or 16:9, what formats your TV supports - 480i/p, 480i/p widescreen, 720p, 1080i).
