Hi All,

Im in market looking for a very good home theater system to complement my new PZ85. Since, I will be using the system to mainly watch movies, Im looking for the system to deliver PURE CINEMA Experience. I would also be playing some games on the XBOX 360 (not regular though) and would also use the system to listen to music.

I did some research and found that Def Tech ProCinema series is very good and carries a lot of recommendations everywhere. I was seriously looking at Procinema 800 series although I have seen many comments that the Pro Sub 800 is not sufficient. Perhaps use the Pro sub 1000 instead of the 800?

I would like your opinion on this system for my requirements above. Do you have any other recommendations that I should consider? My budget is about 1200$ give/take 200$.

Thanks all for your advice.

Merry Christmas and have a great New year! :)

The Def Tech pro cinema series are speakers only, what do you plan on powering them with (receiver)?

Sorry for not mentioning this earlier. I read a lot of opinions here which seemed to suggest that speakers were a lot more important than the receiver and that's why I didn't make any mention of it.

TBH, that would have been my next question! :) Which receiver is ideal to power the def tech speakers? I was thinking of the following options,
Denon-A1909, Onkyo 606, Yamaha HTR series or Harman Kardon (not sure of the exact model numbers). Im not as informed as you guys and so honestly I do not know if I'm in the right direction! :)

What do you think of these receivers? Would they be sufficient to power the def tech speakers? Again, I'm still researching on various combinations within my budget. I guess I'm more after the best bang for the buck. I was planning on collating all the recommendations and then auditioning each one of them in turn. I will eventually get the one I feel that sounds the best. So you are welcome to give me other recommendations as well. I was just looking for a combination that is the best I can get with that budget. BTW, the budget I mentioned before was only for speakers. Im willing to spend an additional 400-500$ for the receiver.

Thanks again!

Any of those you mentioned will work just fine. I would recommend that you go to a store and listen and compare them using the same audio source and see (hear) which one you like best.

Thanks! What is your opinion on the speakers? Any other recommendations that you may have?

I think the Definitive Technology speakers are great but there are many other great ones as well. Paradigm (my favorites) has a cinema series as well, Infinity, KEF, Klipsch, Polk as well as a few others make speakers within your price range. I would suggest you go to an audio store and audition some for yourself as they sound different and you must be the deciding factor not someone else's opinion, like mine for example.
