Please excuse me, I have long blond hair!
But, how can you be sure that you are receiving the HD signal from your cable system's HD DVR box?
My Samsung plasma looks great on all channels

I am not sure what cable box you have, but with Dish, if the channel is avalible in HD, it ill tell you on the channel header when you change channels. But it doesn't always mean the program on that HD channel is in HD. You can also in the program guide, filter on HD channels only and stuff like that. You should definately be able to tell the difference on most if not all HD channels when broadcasting an HD program or movie. Another way is to hit the info button on either the cable remote or TV if the channel/program you are watching is in question. The info on the cable remote should tell you if it is avaliable in HD or not. The info button on your TV should display what resolution that channel/program is broadcasting in (480i for SD and 720p/1080i for HD)....Unless you set the box to outout a specific res.... Most of the major stations broadcast in HD now..

If you cant see any diff., I would be concerned that something is not hooked up right or your settings are wrong.

Cox cable company is my provider. I'm hooked up to my DVR box as per instructions. When I pulled out one of the cables on purpose, I couldn't find any real change of the picture. That's when I started to get concerned about my connections. I'm using the cable's that came with the DVR and even bought a HDMI cable and can't find any difference in picture. I'm really confused!

Hi and welcome to HDF.:hithere:

Are you running both an HDMI cable and a Video Composite cable (yellow)?

What is the make and model of the Cox DVR?

As long as your TV is not in stretch or zoom mode . . . .

if the picture fills the screen then it is HD programming.

if the picture has bars on the sides, then it is SD programming.
