I was looking into setting up a system for my panny th50pz80u. I initially was going to just go with a HTIB from panny - like the sc pt760 or sc pt960. I like the VIERA link option. But them I went to BB and they started pushing other options, mainly Yamaha. So I looked at the Yamaha HTIB options - such as the YHT 390 and 590. But Im not sure if the viera link will work with them. Now I have NO idea what to get. I want to spend around 3-400 and I would like to have the VIERA link work.

Please help!!!

If you want the VIERA link to work, it will require a receiver that has HDMI 1.3 repeaters. Without HDMI 1.3, VIERA link will not work. The least expensive HTIB I have seen that will accomplish that is here - http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKHTS6100/Onkyo/HT-S6100-7.1-Channel-Receiver/-Speaker-Package-BLACK/1.html

wow. thanks for the info. I had looked into the 6100 also.

So would you go with the panasonic sc pt960 or 760 or go with the Onkyo 6100?

Loves2Watch are you implying that the VIERA link will work on the Panasonic Plasma if I was to buy the ONKYO 6100 or 7100

And is that work for any HDMI 1.3? Or just onkyo?

Would you think it worth it to spend $500 to $550 on the 6100 which costs over half that on the 760 or 960?

The Onkyo system has a full fledged receiver with many inputs/outputs and is much more future proof. It will also be able to handle more additional equipment then the Panasonic units will. If none of that matters to you (do consider future plans though) then go with the Panasonic model. I would recommend that you go to a store to audition both before making a decision.
