Hey, I'm new to forum and to HT systems. I just order my TV(Samsung ln46a650) and I wanted to set it up to a HT system. I was looking at the HTIB but after reading what people were saying on this forum and other forums it seems like if i just build my own HT system it will be better in the long run. I was looking at getting either one of these receivers listed bottom but I have no idea on which speakers to get. I wanted to do a 5.1 setup to start and down to line do a 7.1 setup. If you guys have any other receiver or HTIB in mind besides the ones I listed which offer the same stuff please let me know. I don't mind getting good speakers for now and Ill upgrade them later when I go for 7.1 setup, doesn't have to be great. Total Budget is $700-$800(will go up to $1000 but only if its a must). Thanks ahead of time guys :-D

Inputs:
SAMSUNG ToC 46" 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV - LN46A650 (HDMI)
Samsung HD Cable Box - SMT-H3050 (HDMI)
Pioneer 1080p Upscaling DVD Player - DV-410V-K (HDMI)
Sony PS3 (HDMI)

Receivers In Mind:
1. Denon AVR-789/1909
2. Pioneer VSX-1018THX-K
3. Yamaha RX-V663
4. Onkyo TX-SR706
5. Onkyo TX-SR606

I'd go with the 606 to free up more money for the speakers.

Check out the Infinity Beta series on ebay from the Harmon Audio store. It's direct from the manufacturer.

Paradigm Atoms are also a great value, but it will be more expensive to get a matching center channel.

In terms of a sub, go with HSU, SVS, or Velodyne for starters.

I think the 606 and the Betas would go great together and get you in for under your budget.

Thanks, i was checking the store on ebay but I dont know which Infinity Beta speaker to get... They look pretty big, is there a little ones that are good to get, not micro size or like bose. I was reading that the same speakers are not worth it. I was thinking of getting the Onkyo HT-S7100 since they come with the SR606 and they have them for $430 shipped at shoponkyo. The reason i haven't is because I dont know if it would just be worth it in the long run to get a more "future proof" receiver like the Denon 1909 or Yamaha V663.

Actually the 606 is more future proof then the others you mentioned.

It has more features. Home Theater Magazine rated it the best receiver under $1000. That says a lot.

Pair of Beta 20s up front.

Beta C 360 Center

Beta 250 surround dipoles.

Prices are incredible. I just checked them to get the model number on the center.

The speakers included in the HTiB will not compare favorably to these.

Is there a big different between the beta c360 center and the beta c250 center? there is a different of $120 that's why i ask... Also that's a total of 4 speakers, I wouldn't need any more? The beta 250 surround dipoles, where would i put those? Thanks for the great info and ur time.

The 250 will sound great.

The dipoles would be used as the surround speakers.

And for clarification:

2 Beta 20 Bookshelf Speakers

1 C250 Center Channel

2 Beta 250 Dipoles for surrounds.

You'll also need a subwoofer to get the most out of your 5.1 mixes.

The top and bottom Infinity's on the page are both a good bargain if the budget is tightening.

If you are going to get the Infinity Beta speakers I would recommend you get an Infinity sub as well. They do sound great.
