Maintenance question

11-30-2008, 10:32 AM
I am 2 years in with my Samsung 43" Plasma and absolutely love it. Question I have re: maintenance. I have two options available to me to help wash out some burn in, 1 of them is a black, grey, white pattern that moves across the screen and the other is straight white.

I know the white one will age the pixels, but am curious if there is one I should use on a regular basis and if so, for how long > 5 minutes/1 hour, etc?

I appreciate the help.

The one that moves it across the screen (scrolling) is generally most effective in the shortest time for removing IR (image retention).

Don't worry about aging. Most plasmas are good for 60,000 to 100,000 hours before half brightness. I can't believe you would ever be running the 'white screen' mode long enough for that to be a concern. If you did, you would never have time to watch anything else.

I have found some image retention after about an hour of some news shows that have high contrast bars across the bottom (CNN comes to mind). If I go to the scrolling feature I can make out some images in the white field. Generally they all but disappear after about 20 minutes of scrolling.

But the better news!! I found I can watch an hour or so of 'other' regular programming and it also disappears without running anything else.
