Hello everyone,

I've never ever had a sound system before, and I've always used the TV speakers. So I've done some research and found that the Onkyo S6100 is a great buy. However, I just saw the Onkyo SR606, and if add some other speakers I could have some other speakers for the same money.

However, I don't know what would be the better deal. I don't really plan on upgrading any time soon and want a system that can hold its own over the years.

So I would appreciate any help with my situation. Should I buy the S6100, for $550 to my door, or buy the SR606, $310 to my door, and some speakers? And if the second option, which speakers would be good for about $250. I was thinking the Onkyo HT540, but any other suggestions would be great. Thanks!

I would suggest purchasing the TX-SR606 and some speakers.
These sould be really great matched with the new receiver - http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKSKSHT540/Onkyo/SKS-HT540-7.1-Channel-Home-Theater-Speaker-System/1.html

So what exactly is the upside to buying a receiver and speakers separately? If I get those speakers and the 606, I see that I get less power from the sub. Do they have other features or maybe better sound quality?

Look into some Infinity Beta 20s at the Harmon Audio shop on ebay and some subs from HSU, SVS or Velodyne.

The packaged systems have limitations. Especially in the $200 realm.

Check out the 806 on Amazon. I just purchased it for under $600.
