FINALLY... I'm off tomorrow, so I have some spare time this evening. I carefully wrestled the big 52" Samsung LN52A750 out of the box and set it up on a table in an extra bedroom we have set up as a study.

Plugged it in, turned it on, set the clock. No input devices, cable, antenna, etc. yet.

I went to the menus and, as per directions from another website, set the mode to "movie" and Film Mode to "Auto." This set has a reputation for coming beautifully calibrated right out of the box, and just those two changes are recommended.

I turned down the room lights to almost dark.

Went to the picture galleries and started the "Party" sequence, a series of about 20 pictures (mostly nighttime) of casinos, Tokyo, fireworks, neon lights and closeups of cocktail drinks. Groove music thumped through the built-in subwoofer.

WOOOWOOOWOOOWOOO!!! Oh, gawd, this thing is GORGEOUS!!!! Black blacks, pure, sharp, balanced, rich color. Reminds me of the time I stayed in a hotel looking out over the Las Vegas strip.

Awesome. Wow. Just blows me away. Beautiful. Beautiful. I'm just.... I'm just....

Everything you've read about this TV is true. My new life starts right now.. :D

More later.

OK, I'm getting calmed down a bit now. Sorry for losing control for a minute there..... :o

Left everything the same, but nudged the color from 50 down to 47, just to take the edge off. It was just a tad too saturated.

I've just watched the gallery pictures so far, so haven't had any "motion" for tinkering with the AMP, but it will probably be on medium or high.

I moved the 100Hz sound band up to about 75% on the equalizer, and turned on the SRS TruSurround XT.

Now it's just magnificent. Picture and sound are both just gorgeous. I'm not going to do anything else to it.

I seen what people mean by that reflection on the rim, just along the edge of the picture. You can kinda see it sometimes, but it doesn't bother me at all; I don't "look for it." I think anybody who makes a big deal out of it is being a little silly.

In the next couple of days I'll pick up an HDMI cable and play the "Open Range" SDDVD into it from my Phillips upconverting DVD player, and see how that goes.

We won't have a cable/satellite HD feed until we move into a new house in about 3 months. We might get a Blu-Ray player in the next couple of weeks, but if I'm happy enough with upconverted DVDs that might be postponed until we move.

Wow. What an experience. I haven't felt like this since the day I bought my first car (that was back in 1968, kids...) :D

while you are out picking up and HDMi cord, pick up a pair of rabbit ears and you'll be able to pick up a few HD Channels over the air, this will at least hold you over until you get cable in your new home.

Congrats on your purchase, and pick up a blu-ray player, and some of the new releases out there to give your new set a workout of all of it's capabilities. After that you WILL want a HD provider, and a home theater sound system sooner, than later. Congats again!
