I need some advice.

Check out the Toshiba 34hf84 or the replacement model 34hf85 (the only difference I can see from the limited material avail is the styling and price - yes the new one is a couple of hundred cheaper!). I have had the 34hf84 for six months and am very happy with it. It is probably comparable to the SONY KV-34HS420 but somewhat cheaper and from what I can tell from reading various threads, has better picture control - I stand to be corrected but on the Toshiba you can stretch a 4:3 HD picture to eliminate the black (broadcast) sidebars which I don't think you can on the SONY in HD mode. The black level is good and with my Comcast DVR I get a very acceptable SD picture.

thank you I will, I just bought the SONY KV-30HS420 for 1G and the newer one the KD-30XS955 will be in soon. I can return my TV but I don't know what to get.

That price range can include all kinds of technologies, not just direct view CRT. Direct view LCDs from 26" to 32", CRT RPTVs in the 40"+ range. The DLP, LCD, etc RPTVs in the low 40"+ range start about $1500...

Please help me out, I have to get something at Circuit City, however they will price match. The reason I have to buy at Circuit City is because they have 0% intrest till 2007.

Of those 3, I'd say the Sony...

good, I was leaning towards the SONY.

good, I was leaning towards the SONY.Yes, even though the Panny is a 34" and the other 2 are 30", I'd go for the Sony too. RSawdey pointed out to me the other day that it has CableCard; the other 2 don't. I was looking at that Samsung because it's only 16" deep, but it didn't have CableCard. Also, Sony's Super Fine Pitch gives it a much clearer picture. IMHO.

Well, for one thing the one you want has a digital ATSC tuner instead of an old analog NTSC tuner. :) Plus it's got CableCard. And to top it all off it has SUPER FINE PITCH. :yippee: These are just three things. If you print both out and compare you may find more. Good Luck!

p.s. I think you got something messed up the last time you posted that "Shopsunshine" link above. You have a few minutes to go back and edit it if you want to.....

1a. It's the device that picks up digital TV signals based on standards set by the Advanced Television Systems Committee (newest technology)

1b. It's the device that picks up analog TV signals based on standards set by the National Television Systems Committee (been around for a long time and on it's way out)

2. CableCard lets you get Digital Cable TV without a Set Top Box. The cable company installs a CableCard in a slot that is built into certain newer TV's instead of hooking up a box. :yippee:

3. Super Fine Pitch is a Sony Standard on their top of the line TV's. It gives a really clear and sharp picture. It's sort of like the way their "Trinitron" sets used to blow away the competition 25 years ago.

p.s. These are my "layman" answers; I'm just an accountant. There are several people who can give you very detailed specific technical answers if you want further clarification.

Wow, that's a tough call because I don't have much experience with LCD's. But I can say the Sony's are great. You'll love it. :yippee: I have a 34" Zenith W/S Direct View CRT (which is a slight step down from the Sony 34" XBR  ) and I am extremely happy with the picture. :) It's amazing, especially in HD. I just wish they came in larger widescreen sizes, but they're already almost 200 LBS and 2 feet deep. :( Maybe some people who have that Zenith 23" LCD can rate it for you, but I'd bet the picture is nowhere near as crisp and clear, and there's no way the LCD blacks are anything close to the DV Sony CRT. Just my opinion though....
