I am considering upgrading to HD with either Dish or DirecTv...presently have SD Dish. The Dish website indicates that the HD receiver is $399.00. I called Dish to check on this and was told that I could upgrade to an HD receiver for $50.00 if I did my own installation.

The person I spoke to had a foreign accent and didn't seem to understand what I was saying most of the time.

Does anyone know if this $50 price could be correct? I don't want to order it and find out there other charges.

That's all I paid. That is for a lease (with receiver exchange) ($5 mo), you will not own it.

I paid a $50 fee to upgrade to the 811, shipped my old Dish unit back to them using the 811 box and the postpaid RA UPS shipping label they sent me and received a $25 credit on my account. Thus the upgrade only cost me $25 out of pocket, and, of course, $5 a month for the 811 lease fee. They also offered me a 1/2 price for a year for the HD package. All in all, a fair deal, I thought...

Forgot about the 1/2 off HD programming .That is a great deal. 15 HD channels for 10/mo. After that, it's a buck a channel but still a good deal.

Thank you for the information. I expect that I can get a good deal on the receiver if I decide to go HD with Dish.

I prefer to go with DirecTv in order to get the NFL Sunday Ticket but there is some question at this time about the cost of getting the Sunday Ticket in HD. Last year there was no extra cost but this year it may be an additional $99.00.....in addition to the $219 for the Sunday Ticket package. If that's the case I'll stay with Dish.

Thanks Again.
