Ouch.

My Elite is acting up again. I haven't touched it since I got my ass handed to me in NG2.

Hey, do me a favor if not don't worry as I'll ask when mine eventually gets the RRoD. Ask if they are giving out Opus replacements?

The Opus is suppose to be a hybrid refurbished 360 made from Xenos/Falcon/Zypher parts and it is suppose to have no RRoD issues.

you're lucky....mine RROD'd and Target told me that I had to go to MS since it was still under warranty with them. Took exactly 3 weeks for me.

i will say that it has been hassel free with Xbox getting this fixed. I ddint even have to call them, there website is set up to send you a box to mail it back to them with great tracking.. A+ for servicing with them so far. this is my 2nd return to them and the first took about 2 weeks also. the first problem i had was disc reading error about 2 years ago.

I think its those sports games I always see you playing. The Xbox dies after prolonged exposure. It needs some fierce ninja action or some Call of Duty to keep it working properly.

Poorly cleaned poopy potty unsanitary disc can be a huge problem to your 360........

on a side note, i will have my Xbox360 back repaired and fixed before:

1) home is released on the PS3
2) probably before the 2.4 FW is fixed
3) any games actually have Quality games have Trophies for the PSN
4) any good excusive titles are released on the PS3

good run :gamer
:Knocks on Wood:

I do know a couple people who have had 3 RRoD (in real life that is) and one who just did the x-clamp trick which worked quite well but he had 2 Red Rings  which is why he did not send it back and had to do the x-clamp..

Funny... the way that's worded made me think it was some sort of XBL Achievement :haha:

I'm glad I got the extended warranty on my ps3 so when the drive got screwed up I just brought it back to BB and walked out with a new one. Sure beats waiting on shipping and all that crap.

What model did you have and what model did they give you?

Due to not being able to get a PS3 locally at launch I scored mine off E-bay super effin cheap ($750+tax&shipping) so I couldn't get a Warranty on it.

I got the Wal-Mart plan for my 80GB, so if that one ever screws the pooch I should be covered.

I gave them the 40gb spiderman3 edition one and got back a plain jane 40gb model, the only catch is you have to make sure you have *all* the cables'n'stuff that came in the box. I kept the movie though with no hassle about that.

Have you ever checked out continousplay for warranties? (I think that's what it's called)

No, I actually haven't really looked into buying a Warranty hehe. I did ask Best Buy when I got it, since the Ebayer got it at Best Buy. They said I could have added a warranty since it was purchased within 14 days of me asking.

In the end I said no, betting my luck on my success rate with consoles. Boy did it bite me in the ass not getting one on my 360, hehe. The Wii I got was a gift for my girlfriend and she tends to have bad luck with electronics so I got her the 3 year plan for like $30 or something at Target.

None of our systems, aside the 360, has required any kind of repair. All the glitches a hard reset always fixed. Even the Wii when it froze/jammed/whatever(the cursor was still spinning but the progress bar wasn't and after roughly 20+hrs I figured any damage was done so I pulled the power plug) during a F/W install didn't get damaged, at least no damage that we've experienced...yet.

Didn't a lot of vendors stop offering extended warranties on 360's (or was it M$ told them to stop?) I seem to remember hapening along those lines. I know it's probably FUD that was being spread but I honestly never looked into it, I'm just thinking about it because I'm probably going to get a 360 with the upcoming price drop and I want a PRP on it (damn kid :banghead: )

From everything I've read, and a friend I have at one of my usual Gamestops, it seems it was EB/GS that first cried foul, at least thats what my friend said.

In his store he said they were seeing up to 40% of total units sold coming back with RRoD or broken disc drives. Scratched discs weren't their issue, but they'll replace discs that had a warranty on them.

Anyways, I guess they made enough stink that the news caught on (if you look up Gamepolitics, they started posting about it and actually credit themselves for helping the information spread fast) to the point that Microsoft addressed it that day during the E3 expo.

So, Microsoft extended its warranty to 3 years which overlapped the Store warranties. So the stores technically had to:
1. honor any warranties they sold, and then turn around and charge Microsoft for a new console since they were giving new consoles to users. Microsoft started to see a hit in the pockets since they were giving out new consoles in exchange for refurbished units. This is, from what I've read, caused Microsoft to ask vendors (primarily GS/EB) to refer customers to MS.
2. some vendors (GS/EB specifically) refused to sell warranties, even though broken disc drives were still only part of the 1yr warranty, not the 3yr RRoD warranty.

And now you'll see some stores like Best Buy/Wal-Mart/Target (most often not game savvy stores) honor warranties they sold or even 30-90 instore return polices on RRoD systems, some don't even ask whats wrong (this at one point became less frequent from what some people posted at that consumers webpage) but stores like EB/GS will often give you a hard time if you have a warranty through them. I think they've gotten mellow on their own instore return policy.

Anyways, in the end it's almost a random occurrence if a store will honor the warranty they sold you or just refer you back to Microsoft. Some stores even say they won't honor the warranty they sold you until the 1yr parts warranty from Microsoft expires, so thats 1 yr after you purchased the console.

You should work for MS. Some people would actually dig that.

You should work for MS. Some people would actually dig that.

In a cynical way, that would be a badge of honor! Like Purple Hearts.

In your Gamerscore profile it has little red ring, and a number for each time a Red Ring occured/reported on the user's account. I bet people will even brag about it if there was a tracking statistic.

I've had 3 RRoDs so far, what you guys got!?

Or even better the three little lights that make up the red ring, for every console that RRoD's on you you get one little light lit... when you get all three you win a brand new console

Haha, yeah brand new not a refurbished unit! I bet you that would satisfy some customers.

EDIT: Like me! Hey, someone email this to Microsoft!
