VIP 622 keep, sell or throw away????

I have a VIP 622 with no outstanding balance. I canceled my account 12 months ago and waited for the return boxes to show up but they never did. I'm cleaning out my basement, and there I see a now 13 month old Dish VIP 622. So I call Dish, and their system shows that b/c it was through AT&T bundling, that their system shows the receiver as leased but not necessary to send back, like a receiver black hole!

What am I suppose to do with this thing? I'm going to DirectTV after canceling cable this week, BUT if I was going back to Dish Network I'd become a new customer because of the deals, so I wouldn't use this VIP 622.

Is it true that I couldn't give it to my cousin and let him use it because it will show up as leased to me, and therefore locked out to anyone but my account?

Any advice or thoughts? Is this thing a door stop?

If it is listed as being leased, no one else can use it. AT&T may want it back, but other then them it is useless so throw it away may be your only option.

If there is no outstanding balance on your account and they don't want the receiver back I don't see why you can't give it to your cousin to use. He would probably be required to lease it the same as you did.

I had a similar deal with a 522 I actually purchased it a few years ago when dish wouldn't let me upgrade. I bought it and hooked it up myself. It is now obsolete since I have a 622 VIP unit. What I did was tear it apart and use the 160 Gig HD as a back up in an external USB case with my computer. I believe the 622 has a 300 Gig, if you have no use for it there is always ebay.

I was going to say the same thing, if nothing else pull the hard drive out and use it in a comp. or something.

Call Dish and give them the S00... and R00... numbers off the unit.

They can tell you the status and if you can sell it.

It would be a shame to ruin a $400 unit by removing a $70 hard drive.
