720p or 1080p

First off, I did search the forum for my question and did get some good input. I think it's worth a new post anyways so here goes:

I currently have a 50" Panny Plasma 720p which i bought when the BD vs HD-DVD format war looked like it would drag on. Now that BD has won the day, I have purchased a PS3 and started my BD collection. The question is: How much better would my BD movies look on a new say 52" LCD/Plasma 1080p set versus my current tv?

I know this is subjective, but I would appreciate anyone's opinion. BTW, typical viewing distances in my room are ~ 9-11 feet.

Thanks :hithere:

I'd be suprised if you would see much difference for video material.

That's a good point. I'm only interested in video quality, not audio.

I too would be surprised if you would see any difference unless you sit 5 feet away from the screen.

Well I went from a 1080i/720p samsung 30 inch wide CRT to a Phillips 42 in 1080p lcd and saw a big jump. But I do only sit 6 ft away from mine. (PS3 gaming and Blu Ray look amazing and more vivid than my old 30 incher via HDMI).
