I just picked up a used sonny kp51ws510. I would like to know if there is anything I need to do to help with it's longevity.

Also there is a curved dark line at the top part of the screen. To me it looks almost like the shadow from a spider web. Is this possible? And is there anything I should do to clean the inside of the tv, just for preventative maintenance?

Thanks in advance.

52 views and not one nugget of advice. I'd take "don't dance on it" or "the screen faces the viewer".

Like I said I don't know anything about it and I don't want to be doing something that isn't good for it.

The lack of responses might be due to the fact that your TV is a 5 year old CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) Rear Projection TV using an outdated technology in which very few forum members have expertise or experience. Please be patient. Eventually, someone with said expertise will see your post.

P.S. If you did not get a manual with your purchase, you can find one at http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=KP51WS510
Click on "operating instructions"

I think BrianO was just trying to say that your TV it is just a little bit older. Not bad, just older. I have seen some older CRT's that have a beautiful picture. Most, not all, people on here have TV's that are newer than that. So just give it some time and someone who has, or had, your TV will answer. That's all.

I didn't need anything specific to my tv, just rear projector in general.

I have owned a couple of Pioneer CRT RPTVs. The faces of the projection lenses face upwards in these TVs and are magnets for grime and dust. I used to clean mine every six months or so. Simply pull the TV back off (power disconnected!) and clean the lens surfaces preferably with a microfiber cloth. And I did have a spider web one time! The only place foreign objects will be in focus are on the faces of the crts (not accessible) or up against the inside of the screen. Be careful if you decide to clean the mirror. They are externally silvered and scratch easily. The mirror faces downward, so it should be clean.
If this set has never had its lenses cleaned, I guarantee you will think you have a new TV! :yippee:

Thank you. I kinda was reading on here and is it bad to just turn the tv on for like 15 min and then shut it back off. Or to turn it on several times a day.

Switching these sets on with their CRTs and high voltage power supplies is the most stressful event of their operation. Best to minimize that activity.
