Directv's Pay Per View Profit Game

I learned something new today about Directv's Pay Per View. If your primary receiver mirror's your other receiver's you can all see the same movie you order on Pay Per View at the same time on more than one receiver in your home. This can be done if you order from the tv directly. If you order on your computer for the PPV on all tv's I'm not sure if can be done.
There's more...the customer service person at DTV told me this is a new way they are handling ppv.
I see all of this as a scheme and oppourtunity for DTV to make extra bucks.Mainly they want to charge each receiver a separate fee for watching the same film at the same time..unless you go about it other ways. It's like playing the game twister !!!
I recently cancelled Netflix and thought this would end up costing almost the same amount of money every month with PPV and I Would'nt have to depend on the mail or being put on a long wait list on NetFlix..I thought Directv PPV would be a smarter idea....plus I thought everyone in my house hold could watch the same movie on their receiver's that I'm watching.
I thought it sounded too good to be true :(

Not to be rude but I am still questioning why you just did not switch fully to Dish Network if you have so many problems with D*?

For years I have been ordering PPV's and watching them on multiple receivers w/o multiple fees. I am sure I would have noticed an additional $30-$40 charge after I watched a UFC PPV on 2 of the 3 DVR's in my house.

For years now I'm pretty sure it's been setup that if you order a PPV via DIRECTV internet account it goes to all the boxes in the house without charging multiple fees. From my experience if you order a PPV via the remote control it DOESN'T go to the other boxes in the house, it only goes to the box you ordered it from.

Rickbbb,

You better sit down before you read this.

Here's another new thing with PPV and DIRECTV DVRs. They PPV will only be on the DVR for 24 hours once you start watching it. You can't start it one day, stop it before it's over, and watch the rest a few days later. Now you have to watch the whole thing within 24 hours of when you start watching it.

I don't think I have ever used the remote to order a PPV. I always do it online since I use my computer for almost everything in my daily life. This is yet another reason that I will never use the remote to order a PPV.

glennb1,
I was aware of the movie from ppv only being on the receiver for 24 hours.Customer service at DTV told me if I ever order a special event show I can keep that on for more than 24 hour's.
Also,as I said earlier ..Directv customer service TOLD ME on the phone today that they recently changed the way people are charged with Pay Per View.If your satelite Dish does not mirror with all the receiver's ..then you can't all watch the same movie at the same time on all receiver's.The primary receiver has to be mirrored to all the receiver's at your home. Some might not be and therefore will not be able to show the movie you order on the other receiver's.Also he mentioned about the phone lines all have to be connected to each receiver. Personally,he seemed a bit confused to me about what he was talking about.LOL.
I am also aware that you can order PPV from your computer.Costs less...no handling fee added.

The satellite dish doesn't mirror the receiver. The dish has no clue what receivers are connected to it. The first box on the account is the primary receiver on the account and the other boxes on the account mirror the same programming services.

When you order a PPV with the remote the box doesn't necessarily call in to DIRECTV right away. It might be days before it calls in so there's no way a PPV event could be sent to all the boxes in the same household.

I think the muscle guy avatar is clearly the funniest so far.
It's pretty funny to believe people think the muscle bound, oiled up, veins sticking out look is attractive.

Nothing new here. If you order via internet, all receivers will display the selected PPV. If you do it via remote (using phone line connected to receiver) only that receiver will display the program.

So was DTV customer service making all that up,what they told me?

I would take pretty much anything DIRECTV reps tell you with the proverbial grain of salt. But you don't have to take my word either. Try it and see for yourself.
