Ok. Dish network has locals in HD in Mobile. why doesn't Directv have them also. Got an Email from their Public relations head honcho Mr Mercer. He says "HOPEFULLY" we will have them up by late this year. He has been talking out the side of his mouth for 3 years now. Says it is a VERY complex process. Horsefeathers
!!!!! wanted to say something else but can't.

Ok. Just because Dish network has locals in HD in Mobile does mean DIRECTV should automatically have them.

DIRECTV has been launching their own launching satellites to provide their customers with HD local channels. DIRECTV doesn't have local HD channels for every city in the country yet.

I guess things would be a lot different if you were in charge at DIRECTV instead of the guy that you claim has been talking out of the side of his mouth for 3 years now.

I realize they have things that they have to do. I am not dumb!!! I also realize that there are constraints that they have. But when you tell a customer we will have it in early 2007 and then it keeps getting put off time and again., a person gets tired of hearing the same bunch of words come out there mouths saying your not getting what you were promised. Here is an excerpt from the last email. He has been saying this for almost 3 years. I have the email trail. :banghead:

We hope to launch your market this fall, when our new satellite is fully tested and operational. Sorry for the delay. This is an extremely
complex process. Thanks for your patience. Robert

There are many of us waiting. You think you're upset? Just ask the folks in Norfolk, VA (DMA #42, and still no local HD from D*) what their thoughts are on this. But now that DirecTV 11 has been launched and is currently going through testing, hopefully that will mean several HD local markets will be launched this fall. Nothing official in my statement - just my :2cents .

This is exactly why Directv no longer gives out dates for when each city will have their HD locals. There were several things that caused the latest satellite launch to be delayed that Directv has no control over (like a Sea Launch rocket explosion that delayed all later launches while the launch pad was repaired).

I never said you were dumb.

Since you posted - Dish network has locals in HD in Mobile. why doesn't Directv have them also. I didn't think you understood how the process works. Now that I understand that you do understand the process I don't get why you are so  about it.

I too have been disaapointed with the delays, but one obstacle fell on Monday when Directv and LIN TV (owner of WALA and WBPG) reached agreement on HD retransmission.

I am hopeful this development will speed things up a bit, and that "by the end of the year" will turn into "before the end of the summer."

Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Not mad, just so darn frustrated. You would think a LARGE company like DirecTV would run things a little better. Hopefully the thing that mobile lawyer spoke off will speed it up. :what:

If Mobile is served by TV stations owned by LIN TV, there's your problem. LIN TV has been holding back their HD transmissions to ALL carriers until they agree to pay for them. This affected cable and sat providers alike. I can only assume that Dish must have worked out a deal before D* did. (I find this strange though since Dish still has not worked it out here in NE WI with WLUK, a LIN TV property. Are you sure Dish has the HD locals--all stations?) Since you have two LIN properties in your locale, I assume that Direct said, when we get a deal with LIN, we'll set up ALL of the local HDs not just do it piecemeal. Therefore, in my mind, your anger should be with LIN not Direct.

Only FOX & CW are LIN owned in Mob/Pen. But I've seen other markets added without adding all channels in HD.

Here is Dish (only 3 showing in HD):

Congratulations! This address is eligible for the:

Please note: Only channels denoted by "HD" are in high definition. Those without this notation are only available in standard definition.

I guess I might have been too hard on Directv. Channels 3,5,10 are in HD on the dish. when you go to the LIN TV site, it shows that channel ten may be own by LIN TV. Can't tell.

Yes, 10, WALA (FOX) and WBPG, 55 (CW) are LIN stations.

LIN and DirecTV have announced an agreement and some LIN stations are already up and running in HD. There's a thread at DBS talk about this (can't post the link).

Maybe the proverbial sheet of ice has not frozen over yet. Might be some light at the end of the tunnel.

I had hoped that when LIN settled things, ours would pop in there but no such luck. The ice just got a little thicker. Football season. Yes can't wait. NFL network is ok, but nothing like live games.

Probably in September when the sat goes live is what I have been told. Lin TV was a stumbling block and now that was removed.

An extra channel with the same number as your SD local will just show up one morning. The first local channel will be HD and the second will be SD.
