40" LCD or 42" Plasma?

Hey, my families TV recently broke down and we need a new one. I found a 40 inch LCD and a 42 inch Plasma for a reasonable price, but I'm not sure which one to get. Help is greatly appreciated. Both are in 1080p. Thanks. :)

For me it would come down to the following:

1) How much MORE does the extra 2" cost? Is that cost worth the slight size difference?

2) Are these units the same model just different sizes? Do they have the same features?

3) Which would look "better" in the spot the unit is going, as far as size in concerned.

EDIT:

I just noticed you mentioned one is LCD and one is Plasma, so that my negate my second question.

Realizing this, I suppose you have to decide which type of display works better in the lighting and the room it's going to be in.

Also, personal preference on which type of display looks better would play a role (I'm a fan of Plasmas).

Something the posters here seem to agree on and I've read it in many threads is that unless you are purchasing something 50" or larger there is really no reason to purchase 1080p over 720p.

The Plasma is about $100 more.

The 40" Is Sony, the 42" is Samsung the 40" has PIP.

42 inch, but Im concered about picture quality and lifespan.

My son plays his Playstation 3 like 5 hours a day, and I watch a lot of sports.

For $100 more I'd invest in the extra 2"... plus I like Plasmas more anyway.

I'm a gamer as well, and I play PS3 and XBox 360 on my Plasma, and I've never gotten any "burn-in".

Welcome to the forum, :hithere:

Depends on your personal preference really. Ask yourself these questions. What is the ambient light, natural sunlight ? or dark room ? :what:

Do you and your family play video games :gamer or will you on this display ? :huh

Do you view alot of HD movies ( Blu-ray :blu: or HD DVD :HD: ) ?

Is the physical wieght an issue, i.e. setting it on a entertainment stand or wall mounting ? :what:

For pure picture I prefer the plasma, it has a superior picture to any of the LCD, even the newest LCD IMO. They aren't ideal for rooms with alot of ambient light though (although mine in the living room is not an issue with the curtains drawn, and for playing my 360...just wow !   ). and it is what I choose for gaming, movies and of course hockey in HD ! :D

If they are equal in price, or close, I'd buy the pdp for sure. :2cents :)

hope that helps, good luck in your hunt. :yippee: :D

peace
