Because its a cheap marketing gimmick given to us consumers by Sony, Microsoft (less so), and the game developers. As it stands today I can't believe out ludicrous the whole hype ws with the PS3 leading up to the launch... "Full 1080p gaming experience" was touted by Sony more often than I'd care to remember. In truth not even the PS3 and 360 are powerful enough to get these games running at full 1080p without serious cuts to performance...

So what you are seeing isn't so much 1080p/i compatible, but rather 720p (or 640p in the case of CoD4) being upscaled to 1080p/i.

Maybe we'll actually get real HD next generation.

Yeah....Keebs.....Most of the first party Sony games have been 1080p. It's the third party devs that need to shoulder the blame for not getting their game up and running at native 1080p on PS3.

Look no further than GT5P for proof that it can be done in a game with top notch graphics and wildly taxing physics. Not to mention the game is stapled at 60fps.

But, not every studio puts the love into games that Polyphony does. People should read up on that dev house. Most of the employees actually live there under their own will.

Oh yeah, btw, I'd do my GT5P disc if the hole was bigger. I was up til 5AM last night grinding out credits for new rides and trying shave off quarter seconds on lap times.

I haven't been this hooked to a game for.......damn, I don't think I've ever been this hooked on a game.

I can only imagine the greatness of the full package.

I got the GRiD demo, and couldn't even make it around the track once. I even tried with the pro-physics and driving aids off. What the hell? I use to be good at arcade-y racers. I played Need for Speed Most Wanted til the wheels fell off and a little bit of Carbon and did well.

I think training myself to succeed at GT5 has blown all my other racing game skills.

when i look at the back of my cod4(ps3) case.. it says 1080p. though the game itself of course was never rendered by the devs in 1080p, the PS3 can upscale it to 1080p. as far as it saying 1080i.. the only way to play cod4 at 1080i on the PS3 is to disable your 720p setting on your PS3 display settings option, then it will force the game into 1080i. but if you do that, theres alot of games that only support 720p, mostly old ones like motorstorm and resistance.. those ONLY play in 720p

Uncharted supported every render option from 480i to 1080p, which was amazing considering some anti-PS3 people said the PS3 didn't have scalers.

I agree, this generation has been a huge let down in terms of devs for the consoles.

It isn't just all third party devs, Bungie on MS couldn't get 720 and Insomniac/Studio Big didn't use the scalar codes Sony released.

Oh well, PC gaming still rulez!!! hehe.
