I am a current Directv customer, I am looking to upgrade. Which would you choose? Directv or DishNetwork? I want to go Dish because of there sweet offer that's going on. But than again Directv has more hd channels (like SpikeHD and MtvHD). But I would have to pay $99 for a regular HD receiver and $199 for a HDDvr. While Dish has a HDDVR for free. Which would you choose?

well seeing as you are on the D* side of the Forum I am gonna go D*. Will you still enjoy Dish after the sweet offer wears off? Yes you get the fre HD-DVR but how does it compare to D* and what is Dish's future plans for new HD channels and other offerings?

I heard that Dish will be unleashing new HD channels, but nothing really solid. I just want something for my new 52" LCD. Would a HD receiver work on a 3LNB dish or would I have to get a 5LNB slimline dish. I was just going to get a HD receiver from wal-mart and setup the receiver through my 3LNB Dish.

You can set up the new HD receiver or HD DVR with a 3 LNB dish but youy won't get many HD channels(5 or so). Not really worth it unless you also get the new dish.

Which would choose, going through D* online or calling up D* CSR to get the receiver? Or going to a local retailer and buying the receiver. The reason I ask is because the last time I ordered D* online they sent out a installer 3 weeks after I put in my order. I don't want to wait a long time for HD service.

If you are replacing the dish, you will need to go through Directv. If you are just getting a new box and don't care to pay full price, retail is the fastest method.

I really want the 5LNB dish. Is this included when purchased with the HD receiver?

You don't need to go thru DIRECTV if you are replacing the dish.

You can buy a new dish from an online dealer and install it yourself.
Directv doesn't care if you do that.

I called direct tv and told them that dish was offering free hd dvr with free install and dtv rushed out and gave me an hd dvr and free install dish and everything. Try to give them a call, and ask to speak with a manager.

I just called D* and they transferred me over to there "Special Customers Line." And I was able to get the HD-DVR down to 49.95, but they were going to charge me 49.95 for shipping and handling with installation. I couldn't get them to go free. Should I call later and speak with someone else or is this a permanent offer. Dish offerred me America's Top 250 with Ultimate HD for 69.99 a month with $40 credit on 1st, 10th, and 20th payments. Right now I'm leaning towards Dish. Should I try and negotiate some more with D*?

It wouldn't hurt. I got my equipment for free as an existing customer.

Two big reasons to go with DirecTV:

Better picture quality. Dish Network has more channels per transponder, so their picture quality isn't as good.

DirecTV 11 satellite is in final stages of parking, and DirecTV will be able to launch a significant number of new HD channels within the next month or two. Dish Network's new satellite failed at launch, so they'll be lagging behind for a while.

A significant number of HD local channels will be launched, not a bunch of new HD national channels. I heard the new D11 satellite won't be operational till the Fall.

So it will basicly be $100 to get better pq with more hd channels and not have to go threw the trouble of changing services. To me who cares about the credits dish will give or the $100 it will cost for equipment when in the long run you get much more hd content.

I am sticking with D*. They gave me a HD receiver for free. I have the installer coming out this thursday. Should I call D* back and ask for 3 months of HBO and Starz free?
