'Bargain' HDTV offers solid performance

The Best Buy house brand Insignia can be found on some of the cheapest, er, least-expensive HDTVs available anywhere, and judging from the company's terrible NS-PDP42 plasma, you might be tempted to write these sets off entirely.

Although the TV only got rated a 6 out of 10?

The NS-PDP42 is actually a LG 42" plasma, inside and out. I believe the model was the PC1D or their cheap 42" plasma a year or two ago.

Actually, it's a 42PC3D (says so on the advanced menu).

I have one and, for me, it's a great set. The only thing that ever give me IR issues are PS2 games and the honkin' bright 'Insignia' logo on my Insignia upconverting DVD player. Regular TV viewing is very good with (and I must emphasize) NO IR whatsoever.

Wish there was a way to turn down the brighness of the two other IR irritants, but I'm perfectly happy with mine.

It's only a bargain if:
1. It doesn't 'break' and
2. You have low standards of picture quality.

There is always a reason they are 'cheap'. You have to rob from Peter to pay Paul. ;)
