Haha, yeah that game is pretty damn luck based... And its about 80% determined on connection. I couldn't play on my DSL service. Now I switched ISP's and all the weapons are 3x more effective.

Thats usually the case with online gaming really though isn't it? Whoever has the better internet connection wins, certainly sums up my online experience with games like HAlo 3.

Not for me. Neither of the Halos are affected by connection the way COD was. I played Halo 2 online several times a week for 3.5 years, on 4 different ISP's. Never had any different experience as far as weapons working and whatnot. Halo 3 I've played on 2 ISP's, no change.

But COD4 was a different story. It was night and day. I stopped playing the game in December because of how horrible it was. I used only LMG's because nothing else would kill a moving target. I had to shoot entire clips at people to kill them. Then suddenly, I moved, got a new ISP, and I can kill people in one burst from the M16. It was like a completely new game.

Obviously if you have a super shit connection, you'll probably have laggy crap in Halo, but that just means that your connection is too shitty for online gaming. I'm talking about guns not hitting people because of latency. And this was on a 4 meg DSL. There was no apparent lag at all. But it was like I was playing the game 1/2 a second behind everyone else, and shooting in the wrong place. Either that or extreme packet loss.

Yeah, Halo is really annoying, because it has a lag filter which makes it seem like you aren't lagging, (I know of a lot of people who have been the victim oif this) it's most annoying when you stand there pumping round after round into someones back, they turn around, shoot you once, and you're dead, and it happens all too regularly.

My connection isn't the best (it's up to 8mb, but I think it generally runs at 512k. I've had less laggy experiences on the 33k modem in the PAL DC though!), but I can get lag free online gaming on the Wii and I don't have the same issue on other games, it's always been Halo 2 and 3 that have had that noticibly as an issue for me. Just wondered if it was the same on COD4.

i've really only played Halo 2, 3, CoD 4, and Gears enough to have an opinion on their netcode, but i would rank them in that order. Halo 2 never seemed laggy, or at least not affected by it as much. Halo 3 a bit more, mostly in up close situations or Big Team Battle. i definitely notice a huge difference when i'm host in CoD 4; the good thing with it is that the bars give you a little estimate on your connection. Gears was by far the worst when it came to host advantage and general lagginess. i think they could have remedied it by decreasing bullet-travel time (ie make the bullets shoot faster so they are more like Halo/CoD speed). had they done that, the Lancer would've been worth a damn in non-host player's hands. however when things got close-quarters (shotgun battles), it was a crap shoot and mostly luck that determined who won.

it has very little to do with actual speed (e.g. if you paid 29.99 for 4megabit connection vs paying 56.99 for 10megabit connection) then it has to do with ping time (ms). which in turns does come back to your ISP. if your ISP has low and bad ping times on average.. then forget about playing online. .. even though you might have only a mere 3megabit connection service, as long as your ISP is rock solid with ping time, then you will be great. but if you paid 100 bucks a month for a download speed service of like 25megabits per second but your ISP servers ping times are horrible, then you will die no matter what. sometimes i get better ping times then others. the majority of the time whenever I AM the host in cod4, i end up kicking ass, but if i join a match and the host is in california.. i will probably die more often because my rounds do not register the enemy in time.

Huh... I've never had that sort of thing happen with either of the Halo games... But I do know that Halo 3 does a magnificent job of hiding any connectivity issues.

 ;)

Honestly, just put a little extra play time into it, and you'll gain more and more experience. Plus, if you would ever play with us (Eddie, GLOW, F91) you'd almost always be on the winning team. That means lots of bonus points! :D

Hey! Sorry about last night. I was just getting ready to sign off when you came on. I wanted to try out the new Bourne demo before shutting down. It's not very good. So then I jumped over to Dark Sector. That is a definite must see!!

That's how I feel with F91 sometimes! I love playing with him. But it's usually 10:30 my time, and only 8:30 his. And 2:30 yours!! I try to make it to bed by 11:00 so I only get a few games in with him.

We've got to make time to do it on the weekends!! That way there's more free time available to all.
