Do HDMI inputs go bad?

I have a Sharp Aquos lc-3747u television. I had a PS3 hooked up via HDMI and it worked great for a month then it just stopped working. I tried everything I could think of. So tonight I bought a upscaling dvd player with HDMI. I hooked it up to input 1 and nothing, then I hooked it up to #2 and it worked so now the worst has happened. I was scared it would be my tv and it seems it is. Can you give me some ideas please?

Anything can "go bad".

In your case, it could be anything from an defective connector, to a poor solder joint, to a failed processing chip, to ? ? ? ?

If your set is still under warranty, it would be best to have it serviced;
if it is out of warranty, you may wish to simply forget about HDMI1 and rely solely on HDMI2.
