Just wanted to know when I have my new slimline dish (HD) installed do I need an HD TV set up for the installer. Not sure if I can time my TV purchase with the install time.

No, but you certainly wouldn't be able to leverage the HD signals. Obviously you will need some sort of TV to be able to get the signal readings from the box and confirm that it's working, but it doesn't have to be HD.

Note that the HD boxes don't have a coax output, although they do have composite.

I updated to HD on 9/06. The delivery of my new TV was scheduled one day after my D* install appointment. Existing TV was a Pioneer RPTV (SD). The D* installer refused to install the slimline/HR20 on my existing TV and was adamant about it. None of this made sense to me, particularly when the next available install date was one month out!
No amount of ranting would budge the install company (Ironwood), but a month later I did get a good install.
