Swm

Can I request a SWM from Direct TV ??

I didn't want them to punch wires from the outside to the inside of my house for all the receivers. It makes more sense to use a SWM. Wall drops cost more time and aren't always easy in a 2 story house with no crawl space.

I don't believe they are readily available at this point.

You can buy your own SWM for around $300.

I am in the exact same boat as slowtan. I would love an HD-DVR, but it isn't feasible at this point.
McBeevee, where do you get one for 300 bucks and does anyone have any idea when DTV will be out with one you can get through them.

This just happened to be the first link that appeared when googling SWM Multiswitch. Plenty more popped up.

you can get them from ebay $250 ..

I also heard that the future receivers will only need one input. Does anyone know when that will happen. I hate to throw my $$ away.

That price is crazy:spam: The cable companies have been hooking up DVR's with one cable for years now. D* needs to get on the ball and take care of us loyal customers.

The last thing I read is that Directv is working a special dish that has the SWM built into the lnb. This would only require 1 wire from the dish that could be split at the receivers. If it is like the SWM8, it could be a couple of years before it is available to the general public.

Solid Signal has the SWM8 (http://www.solidsignal.com/prod_display.asp?prod=SWM-8)for $296. Here is a website (http://www.swm8.com/index.php) that gives some general info about the SWM8 (maintained by Weaknees).
