D'oh! Oh wait, I already knew that.

The PS3 could have been a half decent in its first year if Sony wasn't so gun ho on trying to get Blu Ray off the ground first. IMO, all the attention being shifted to BD is what fucked the PS3 in year one. Using gamers as a launch platform..

Now excuse me while I try to rid the taste of "you're a tool" from my mouth.

I'm sure he gets plenty whelmed with the 360 he owns :D

My PS3 gets such little gaming use, its sad. If it wasn't for blu-ray, I'd hardly ever use my PS3.

What pisses me off are the pricks that expect so much in the first year or two of a console's life. I already owned 17 360 titles at the time, yet I quickly considered both drakes fortune and ratchet and clank two of the finest looking, sounding, and playing games Ive played yet on my theater system. Ive already been impressed with my ps3 and my two measly 'starter titles', and I can think of four or five titles Im looking forward to just in this next year. My 360 has been great, but its only a matter of time before it breaks down and the ps3 becomes my primary machine.

Seriously!

I understand that many of you PS3 owners find a lot of enjoyment out of the system and that, for you, there are plenty of games worth owning/playing. However, for me, that absolutely can't be said. If it weren't for the BD aspect and PS2 hardware BC I wouldn't even own a PS3 today...

I still only own 3 PS3 games (one of which I bought, the other two are review material sent to me for free)...

Folklore
Conlict: Denied Ops
Turning Point: Fall of Liberty

Folklore was the only game and continues to be the only game on the system that holds any sort of real value. I have played MotorStorm, Uncharted, Resistance, Heavenly Sword, and Lair. Of those games I beat Uncharted, Resistance, and Heavenly Sword. While the game were competent they just didn't really do it for me and as such didn't deserve a purchase.

As for Ratchet, I have never enjoyed the series... even on the PS2.

UT3 I own on my PC.

As for 2008... aside from MGS4 I'm not really seeing a huge line up that screams buy me. Valkyria Chronicles looks like it could be good. FFXIII will most definitely get delayed into 2009. And Infamous has so little information available that I have no idea whether or not it will be good.

The only other PS3 game coming out this year that I have hesitant optimism for is Little Big Planet.

Everybody keeps telling me how 2008 will be a landmark year for the PS3 in terms of games. Where? I'd love to see all these awesome games that I am gonna get my hands on:

Killzone 2 - I'm not a huge FPS fan and Killzone 1 wasn't all that great.
Resistance 2 - See above answer.
Haze - Seriously... ? Look above.
MotorStorm 2 - I prefer my racers in a more SIM-like nature as opposed to Arcade. Same reason why I did't enjoy Burnout Paradise.
SOCOM - Didn't enjoy the PS2 version, PS3 version looks like more of the same.
The Agency - Could be good... depends on the execution.
Twisted Metal - 2009
Final Fantasy XIII - 2009

What else is there for a gamer like me? Am I missing something? If so please tell me!

I don't have some sort of undying loyalty to my PC, Wii, and 360 that makes it impossible for me to like PS3 games. I don't look at the PS3's line up and dislike the titles because they are on the PS3. I am a gamer first and thats what I care about most. I don't care what system it comes on.

Anyways that turned into more of a rant than I'd have originally liked, but as soon as I started typing I just couldn't stop. :o

Same here, I got mine as a gift this past xmass and I've hardly gamed on it. Finished Drakes Fortune rather quickly, but it was rather decent so no real complaints there, other than that an occasional spin with Fight Night just because a friend wanted to throw down over the PSN... he doesn't own a 360 and bought a PS3 simply for BD but wanted to "whip my ass" at something... :huh

I occasionally get annoyed with how shitty the PSN is overall, but over time the feeling becomes numb. Just wish they'd let me demo all the shit like XBL does and make the GUI more intuitive.

Microsoft shot their load too early on it would seem. Hopefully they have a few surprises up their sleeves, as it certainly is a rather barren looking gaming landscape on the 360, particularly for exclusives. I wonder if a console and GTA4 for under 200 is helping them any, given that it's 320 to get a PS3 with GTA4.

m$ doesnt need exclusives anymore. they have more units per houshold so anything crossplatform will be sold more on there system. Its the PS3 that needs more exclusives to get the wheels going again for that system.. just abuot every multi console owner is going to buy the games on the Xbox360 because of great online functions and achievements. neither of which the PS3 offers.

i saw some in game beta footage of MGS4 and i have to say this game doesnt not look very promissing for online gamers at all. so now the only thing im interested in getting at all on the PS3 is socom. i have seen nothing coming out this year that looks great... and if you look at the multiplatform games being released on both system syou can find a solid gaming coming out every month form june to dec.. so I see no need to buy PS3 software. now i am a Hard Core Gamer. maybe the Casual Gamer only plays 9+ rated games and only on one system but a majority of the Hardcore Gamers will always put the Xbox abot the PS3 (Right now!!)

Finally some of the PS3 owners are admitting that the PS3 lineup is not really that compelling. Of the PS3 exclusives that are scheduled to release this year, only Resistance 2 looks interesting to me. I never liked SOCOM; COD4 owns it anyway. MGS4 is a snorefest and from what I understand (correct me if I am wrong) MGS online will be a seperate game...?? If I said it once, I said it a thousand times, 2008 is the year of the multiplatform games: GTA4, MC4, DMC4, SC4, SWFU, etc. Maybe 2009 will be the year for PS3 ;)

Pal? I never knew you cared.
However, in regards to the thread, I have a 360, PS3 and had a Wii. I've been able to objectively evaluate each system. All have merits, all have flaws. Sony continues to improve the PS3 experience, M$ continues to extend the warranties. If anyone can stay "focused" on playing different 17 games during a month, fine. I can't.
I've owned Resistance, Heavenly Sword, Drakes Fortune and COD4 for the PS3 and it has satiated my gaming appetite for a year. Plus, excellent Bluray media center.
You chose 1 system and defend it to the death*, while I get to enjoy the advantages of all of them. Have fun.

*Kind of like Fox news and their ideology, as proven in a since locked thread. Pot, meet kettle.

Dreamcast?

I own all 3 "next gen" systems, and in all honesty, if anyone can turn around and say any one of them is "the best" they are deluding themselves greatly. As F91 said "All have merits, all have flaws." The Xbox 360 has a SERIOUS gap in its software lineup that both the PS3 and Wii will have completely locked down this year. That is going to really hurt it's future performance. Sure "party/casual" games might not be your cup of tea, but they certainly represent a huge market. Microsoft tried with Scene It, but lack of marketing etc means it's had no impact. The PS3 has Singstar, Buzz, Eyetoy games. The Wii is the Wii. The userbase who lap up these sorts of games, are the next phase of hardware sales. If Microsoft doesn't do more to reach out to them, the 360 sales ship will sink faster than HD DVD.

First of all, I have no clue how you even compared the PS3s casual line up to the Wii. The PS3s casual line up is just as bad as the XBox 360s, maybe even worse...

Singstar may seem like a huge franchise, but it's not. The reason why it was such a huge franchise last generation was because the PS2 had captured the casual market much like the Wii is doing now. The PS3 has not captured that same market. As for Buzz! and the Eyetoy games, the 360 has equalled them on both aspects:

The 360 has cornered the Scene It! marketplace with their own adaptations and controllers. Also, the 360 has their own camera along with a host of casual friendly camera games.

In addition, the 360 has MANY more XBLA games that are geared towards casual gamers, in addition to disc-based games such as:

Tetris
Viva Pinata
Pop Cap Arcade Vol. 1
Fusion Frenzy
Guitar Hero
Rock Band

In fact, upon looking at the PS3s line up and upcoming line up and am not even remotely seeing what you are talking about. Perhaps Europe is getting a different release list than the US? :what:

Cygnus
05-07-2008, 02:41 PM
Heh..true. He talks like Singstar has anywhere near the market of Guitar Hero or Rock Band? ;) Wii pretty much has the casual gaming market to themselves this gen. I think sony knows this thus they are focusing more on the core gaming audience (FPS, racing, etc) ever more. M$ keeps trying to reach the casual market but they have not been successful thus far. There have been rumors that GOW2 may support (bundle?) a Wii type controller. The main thing M$ should focus on is improving quality control and lowering the manufacturing costs of 360 which should result in more affordable prices to consumers.
