$1500 to spend, what do i get?

05-03-2008, 11:01 AM
Hello all! I'm new around here and wanted an educated opinion. Like i said, i have $1500 to spend and my viewing distance is about 7-8 feet. The TV will be used in a room that the light can be controlled. It will be used for Blue-rays, gaming, and TV watching of course. Any suggestions? I have been looking at the Panasonic TH-42PZ80U. Any other suggestions would be great, thanks!:D

I just purchased the PZ4285U and I am very pleased with this. I replaced my Hitachi plasma with the panny and it was a noticable improvement especially the blacks. There really isn't much of a difference from the 80U and it is on sale for under $1500 right now I would recommend it.

Whats the diff between the 80 and 85?

Off the top of my hear 30k:1 contrast ratio as opposed to 20k:1 and a VGA port. Might wanna check some more detailed specs to be sure.

Those contrast ratio ratings really don't mean much as there is no standard to relate to. Not much difference between these models except for the VGA port.

What do you guys think about the TH50PZ77U?

I would say that a 50" may be too much for that viewing distance. We have a 36" Sharp at that distance and it's just right. We originally had a 46" in the space, and it was just too big.

It is a great TV. Although 50" may be too big for a few users, it is not for most as they want the biggest they can get. Bigger is usually better, unless you don't like it. You be the judge.

I hear ya...the TH-42PZ80U just dropped to $1299 at CC, sound like the time to buy?

That looks like a good price. If you aren't afraid of buying it online, OneCall and Vann's have it for the same price. May be able to save on sales tax.
