So my wife and I are moving May 14. We have 6 months left on our Dish contract and because we have to move out on the 14th and our apartment will not be ready in Florida until June and maybe July we are having to live with our parents and as a result we are not going to be able to use our Dish service. I called to ask them if there was anyway of suspending the service until we are able to move to Florida and get situated. I figured it would be possible that they could just put my account on hold and I could pick up where I left off, but they said that because it was an 18 month contract that they would be unable to do that. I asked how much it was to buy out of the contract and the guy said $13 a month for the 6 months I have left which is $78. We could possibly be living with our parents for the entire summer so that would be 2, maybe 3 at the absolute most months. Do you think it'd be wise to buy out the contract and switch to Direct TV when we move to Florida? I figured we'd be able to get a much better deal with the HD and all that stuff for being new customers and what not. I tried asking for advice on the Dish board, but no one offered anything...so I figured I'd see if you Directv people were nicer lol

How much is your monthly bill with Dish because $78 is not a bad price especially if you would have to pay your regular monthly bill for the months your not using the service.

Our regular bill is about $39-40 a month or so....we want to stay with Dish, but if they're not willing to work with us to stay then we'll switch to Direct. So if we had to stay for 3 months and not have service that'd be $120...which would be stupid to pay and would be throwing money out the window.

That is actually a very good rate if that includes taxes and what not. You might want to get a quote from D* first before you do anything. You said you were interested in getting HD, if you get HD through D* your monthly bill could very easily almost double. Just something to think about.

Not that I know, but it could also easily double with Dish. You really need to check your programming costs comparing HD to HD!
