Dish Network Unveils HD Service for Condos, Apts.

Fiber-to-home service can deliver up to 400 HD channels.

Washington, D.C. (April 28, 2008) -- Dish Network has announced it's launching a 'fiber-to-the-home' system that can deliver up to 400 High-Definition channels to apartment and condo dwellers.

Called the Dish Optical Network, it can deliver programming to multiple dwelling units over a single fiber optic cable, Dish Network said.

Many apartment and condo buildings use a single MDU dish to transmit signals to multiple units, but its capacity is limited, making high-def services difficult to provide. The fiber-to-the-home system, however, can expand the programming capacity and allow users to operate more receivers.

Dish Network says the Optical Network will enable each unit to have up to six receivers, including an HD DVR.
