Number of dishes needed for VT install

I am about to have an install done in southern VT, and I would like to know if two dishes are still required to access HD and local programming. If so, is this about to change with a new satellite launch.

I tried searching, but I couldn't seem to find an answer.

Thanks,
Ken

I don't know when 2 dishes were ever required for DirecTV. Dish N had that issue, but you should be fine with 1.

I was told that local programming required a second dish.

Many of the smaller DMA's still reqire a second dish for the 72.5į sat. From what city is your local programming originating from?

I think that my local programming would be Boston.

When I first spoke to my installer (last Fall), he said that a new satellite (this Spring?) would bring local programming into position for a single dish solution.

Boston SD and HD locals can be received with the 5-lnb Slimline dish. Enter your zip in the following link to check what locals are available in your area:

I have a similar question. I have 5 TVís, 3 HDís and two SDís. I would also like to have a DVR on one HD set and another on a SD set. With no splitting allowed, thatís 7 connections, and I hear the limit for one dish is 6. Does that mean I need a second dish?

No second dish. You will however need a WB68 multiswitch. Like this:

DeadHead68Thanks for the information. Now all I have to do is see if I can do this with the 100 feet restriction.
