WOW!

The only other game I have seen IGN give a perfect 10 to was Zelda: Orcarina of Time for the N64...

Just to let you guys know the review is up and waiting to be read. :D

Enjoy

Granted MGS4 does have better graphics, but it is on a much smaller scale. If you were to take a look at the whole world of GTA IV then I'd think you'd see why it's such a thing to marvel at. Now is that to say its worth a 10 in the graphics department? Probably not... had I gotten this game as a review title I would mark the graphics as an 8.9... but thats just from what I have seen. Maybe the actual graphics on the toob look jaw droppingly good.

Which is why I hate how games are rated.

I think games should start at a 5. This would be your typical average game.. Like say many of the sports games. It does what it should do and not a whole lot more usually.

I think if more rated this way, we'd have a much broader range of numbers and better idea as to what is really good.

A 10 to me means there is no room for improvement and its a game that would be in your top 5 of all time.

I agree...

I actually like 1UPs new A-F scale for ranking games. Typically I trust their opinions, and I know exactly what to expect from tham if they give the game a C-... :o

It should be simple like movie ratings(4 stars, thumb up/down)
Either its awesome, pretty good, mediocre, not worth your time.

IGN gives the PS3 version the nod over the 360 version..Why? Because of the HDD loading...who's the guy that said this wasn't a feature...

Talk about misleading quotes of the day...

They didn't give the nod to the PS3 version. You are implying they said something like: If you want the full GTAIV experience go buy the PS3 version.

They didn't say anything like that.

What they did say was that due to the PS3s mandatory install there are a few better textures and a few less pop-ins. However, I read another review that said the optional install for the 360 pretty much birngs it up to par with the PS3 version. Guess I won't find out until Tuesday...

Gave the nod the PS3 version... pfffft...

Does a day go by where you don't think: what baseless thing can I find about the PS3 and 360 that will make the PS3 look better... ? I'd think not.

As mentioned above, I don't see this "nod" you speak of.

And the MANDATORY HDD install is NOT a feature, it's a requirement.

For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often. The slight visual edge goes to PS3, but the 360 is no slouch. Either version will do you proud.I dont know about the 'richer' colors comment. EGM says differently.
So yeah thats 3 places. IGN, 1up, EGM has said the PS3 has better graphics and loads faster.

It's apples and oranges.

you can't compare those 2 games since they both bring a total different type of game. everyone knows GTA is massive and wide open while MGS will be a great game but it be nearly as open.

it's easy to say, lets compare screen shots without taking into account other aspects of the game.

OMG the more i read this review the more my head is getting dizzy with excitment.

there is a in game web where you can read online articles on your completed missions and news articles on how your missions are effecting the political and everyday world. you can check your email and go to tons of in game web pages.

NO LOAD TIMES WHEN GOING INTO BUILDINGS.

   oh man you can join an online dating service and hook up for dates.   , can you imagine the board meeting when they tried to sell that aspect of the game was needed and would cost X amout of dollars to build.

you can take friends out drinking, bowling, darts, pool, or go watch a Kat Williams comedy set, man that little guy is funny.

Finally not all cops are heros. some run for the hills once the action starts while some are super cops. i was starting to hate the every cop is a hero aspect but now we have variable A.I. with the cops. also cops will walk by you even when wanted.

"There is also a full neurological system built into Niko so that his body knows how to react to other objects." :D

I purposely stayed away from the GTA news so i would not get to excited and dam did the IGN review put me over the top with excitment. this game looks epic and should be game of the year. I'm glad to see a gaming company with such a high reputation still trying to push the industry. they could have given us half of this and we would have been happy (if it was the right half), but they just kept building and it will pay off bigtime. i wonder if any of that 50 million made its way into building this title.

the reason i wonder is no matter which console you buy it on if that 50 million made the difference between a great GTA release or epic release then everyone needs to be greatful the deal happened. while the 360 owner might benifit a little more from the DLC i'm sure a whole lot of that cash helped build this GTA for both consoles.

i ordered the 360 version simply because of the DLC and could not justify buying the ps3 version like i did with tiger woods golf, NFL, and oblivian. all that extra content just appealed to me a whole lot more then slight advantages that might never be noticed by me.

Got a pre-order at Blockbuster and they are doing a mid-night launch. Can't wait. I already prepped my wife so she knows. I'll probably "Work From Home" on Wednesday if I don't have meetings.

Could care less that a slight edge was given to the PS3 because of anti-aliasing etc. I'll still be able to enjoy the exclusive DLC.

We're not talking about content that adds an extra 60pts of achievements either. It will be major with what MS forked over.

Maybe it's because IGN is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, game review sites?

As far as people wondering why 10 on graphics, I think one of the reviewers summed it up in the responses section. A 10 doesn't mean a perfect game or a perfect score, but rather that in it's category it's the best there is right now.

I can't believe anyone can trust what 1up reviews. a few years ago they purposly held back a madden review for a dam long time. 1up is very suspicious when it comes to games that are in any way connected with espn (EA anyone).

I stick with gamespot.com. they seem to have fairly consistant reviews and don't overhype games like IGN does.

The only reviewer I trust goes by the name of Railven.

I've read reviews bash games I enjoy and praise games I find mediocre.

The thing that sucks though, is this is a super duper hyped release. Ala Halo 3, Bioshock, Heavenly Sword, Lair, and what else?

Anyways, aside Lair - which I completely agreed with its review, I didn't agree with the reviews of all the other games.

Especially, when the same reviewing site takes a complaint to a game like Warhawk for not having a single player mode, but praise Bioshock and sort of skim over it not having a multiplayer. WTF Mate!

Anyways, no game I've played since the launch of these consoles I'd give a perfect 10 (if I were to use a scale of 1-10.)

I can't think of a perfect game this gen either. Some games that come close (floating somewhere between 9 and 10 out of 10) - COD4, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance, Super Mario Galaxy. Probably Bioshock too, but I've only played like 5 minutes of it. Maybe Gears of War, dunno, I've only played multiplayer...

I actually like G4 rating system on X-play. I believe its out of 4 stars. If a game is awesome, a true must own, it gets a 4. If it is a great game and fun to play, it gets 3 stars. Anything below that and you fall into the niche categories and simply bad games. This system avoids the whole 10 versus 10.

"Well, if Halo got a 10 and GTA got a 10, which one is better" blah blah blah.

The G4 system of rating doesn't say which game is better than another. It just focuses on how fun the game is and whether it is worth buying. I'm not commenting on how good Adam and Morgam are at rating games, just saying I like their system of rating games. They also appear completely nuetral when rating games as well.

I really want to know what the major differences are between installing and not.It seems the optional install was a false rumor BUT like Oblivion and most 360 games it still takes advantage of HDD caching and you will benefit from slightly faster loading compared to arcade/core users. Though it wont be on the same level as PS3's install.

They've made no mention of it in the IGN review or the GamePro print review. GamePro did only review the 360 version and said it had the same glitches of older GTA titles (pop-up, clipping, etc.), but who knows.

Meh, let's just hope the glitches are minimal.

Now what I'm wondering, is when will the cheats come out? And I'm not talking about looking for a way to cheat your way through the game. I just used to love putting on a weapon cheat, body armor, and something crazy like flying cars or pedestrians rioting, and just wander around and causing trouble. :D

Okay, so from what I've collected from SSJ's post.

360 + HDD = automatically "installs" by caching to the drive.

360 = no caching.

If so, I'm going to assume all these reviewers have a 360+HDD.

Anyways, the game comes out tomorrow, and no one here I doubt has a Core/Arcade so I'll have to hit the forums to figure this one out.

This is gonna be an awesome year for gamers in general, but especially X360 gamers. It looks like i'm gonna be yet again buying more games than I can finish as there are way too many must have games for me. Saints Row was definately better than any of the previous GTA games, and they should have had enough time to have worked out all of the performance related issues with the first one.

Man, GTAIV, Civilisation Revolution, Saints Row 2, Fable 2, Halo Wars, Gears of War 2, and the list of games to purchase this year continues to grow..............

This is what IGN said about giving a "10":

A "10" is not a score we give out very often. In fact, the last time we gave a 10 to a console game was Soul Calibur in 1999. A 10 doesn't mean a game is perfect -- it means a game is pushing boundaries, expanding a genre, and doing many things to a level so far above and beyond its competitors that they overshadows any flaws. Certainly, GTA IV has some issues, the most noticeable being the occasional flaw in the cover system, but there are many more pieces of GTA IV that are better than anything I've seen from a game in the past decade. We don't give 10s often -- just to games that merit the score.
