As far as I know the Nintendo Wii only supports 480i and 480p, correct?

Any chance of it supporting a 1080i or 1080p signal in the future? I know xbox did an online upgrade to support 1080p after its release, just curious if the wii is capable of anything like that, or is 480p the best we will see out of it?

I doubt we'll see any change in their current strategy. Just be glad we get true widescreen support.

Well hopefully they introduce a "Wii-lite" or "Wii 2.0" in a year or 2 that comes with a hard drive and, at least, 1080i support.

It wouldn't change too much, and wouldn't really be a new system... more like a system redesign ala DS> DSlite.

But the DS to Lite didn't include new hardware, just new fab method.

I've combed over the specs for the Wii tons of times. I don't think it has enough juice to render natively at "HD resolutions" but then again, the PS3/360 struggle at that too - isn't that a stinker , but I do think the Wii has enough juice to offer upscaling, at least to 720p.

Not sure if that will matter, since the games are native 480p. But, as I said, tons of PS3/360 owners are playing upscaled 600-640p games and calling them "HD" so maybe it can fly!
