360 Gone, PS3 Enters

Call me crazy, but I bought a PS3. Well, sort of. The Wife refused to let a new gaming console into the house unless one left first. So, the 360 headed out the door. Luckily the 360 and my old games completely covered the price of the PS3 and then some.

Before you call me crazy, hear me out. I have recently graduate from Graduate School and I have a new job. In the past year to year and a half, my amount of gaming has steadly decreased. Now, I play about once a month. I had 360 games that were barely touched.

However, the Wife and I are movie fanatics. Sad to say, we were both disappointed when HD DVD failed. Wanting to continue with HD movies, we needed a Blu ray player. In comes the PS3.

While most heavy gamers out there are rolling in their graves, for me it makes sense. I get to keep watching HD movies and I can still enjoy a few games here and there when I have the time. Most of the 360 exclusives have come and gone, now it is time for Blu Ray movies and PS3 exclusives. Plus, many great games will come out for both consoles, i.e GTA IV.

The only downside is that I have to now officially eat every bad word I said about the PS3 and even worse, change my forum name

PS: I still feel the 360 is a better gaming console. I just want HD movies and games.

Heh, I guess that if I was married, my wife would probably go nuts over how much I spend modifying my car alone.........

Seriously though that sucks your wife won't let you have two consoles as both are fantastic game machines.

Well, just hope that they don't release a 360 blu-ray add-on anytime soon, or your defection will be for naught.

Welcome to the club. We may lack a back bone, but we are happy.....right? Us maried guys are happy, aren't we?

I am in the same boat, my hobby as a gamer has diminished greatly.

Enjoy your PS3!

I am in the same boat, my hobby as a gamer has diminished greatly.

Enjoy your PS3!

I'm married. My wife has never put her foot down....but then again, I kinda know my limits.

I sold my 360 for similar reasons. Last December I had all 3 new systems. PS3, 360 and the Wii. I sold the Wii around Christmas time because they were going for $600+(Got over $700 for my modest Wii set-up) and I just couldn't pass up that kind of profit. I knew I could get one later on.

I think the 360 has great specs aside from the lack of a mandatory hard drive (which leaves some devs handcuffed.). The problem is with the build quality/engineering. Never in my life had I owned a product that continually broke under ideal operating conditions. I always kept the power brick off the carpet. The system itself was on it's own end table in open air, and yet I still got 3 RRoD between launch and last Feb

I chose to hang on to the PS3 for mostly the same reasons you did, aside from the wife bit.

There are enough games on the PS3 to keep me playing (play time is going lower and lower since I've got kids anyways). As it stands now, I imagine I game for 5 hours a week at the most, unless there is a new must have, then I'll usually play for about 10-15 hours a week max. Rainbow 6 2 was the last time I really put in a lot of hours. I was on a mission to unlock all the weapons and armor and beat it on all 3 difficulties. I love the R6 Vegas series because no matter how high you crank the difficulty, you never die a cheap death. There's always something you could have done to prevent it. Let me tell ya, R6 2 is a 25-35 hour game on the hardest difficulty setting. You have to play the game one cover point at a time or your just going to throw the controller through the screen.

Anyways....back on topic.

The PS3 serves me well. I love the BD playback, it's a great media center for music. My wife loves that aspect as she like to listen to music all day when she's cleaning and chasing our 2 year old. It's also a great machine for showing off pictures to people who come over. What better way to show off your new family pics then on a big screen HDTV?

Eh, I would have played it off as a blu player; Gee sweetheart, we have an hdtv, and hd dvd has failed, we clearly need a blu ray player to continue to enjoy hd movies! But, thats ok kid, we live and learn...just next time ask around for ideas before you approach her with something like that, ok? ;)

Sounds like the 360kid, Kamspy, and DrDre are in the same boat as me, for the most part. I could have just bought a 360 and told the wife to STFU... but I respect her opinion, and in this case she's right: I don't need another pure gaming machine. The fact that she uses the ps3 to watch movies and play music or the same streamed to my psp while she's at work makes it useful to her as well as me, it's a great all around package. On top of that I don't game as much as I used to, having access to the 360's huge library just isn't that big of a deal for me as I barely have time to play what the ps3 offers

Whipped to the max I see :haha:
Is your wife playing YOUR 360, no I assume, so why didn't you tell her to F***k off!
I'm thinking about a PS3 in 6-12 months for the Blu-ray, but I'll be damned if I ever get rid of my 360, I don't tell my wife to get rid of her old shoes when she gets new ones, so the same applies to my stuff.

thats a good move. being that you play games now very very rarely.. there wouldnt have been a point to paying for online service where you where barely using it.. with PS3 and PSN, at least its free :).. enjoy. add me

I am a fairly big gamer and I own both the 360 and PS3. I probably buy a game a week on average and I've still only bought 2 for my PS3. Granted, many titles I've bought are available on both, but I just find them more enjoyable on the 360.

So far, the exclusives just haven't been of much interest either.

Hopefully 360 kid will find more enjoyment from it or at worst case, the dual console games are still fairly plentiful..

You are indeed a lucky man, I wish I could get my wife into gaming. So far she only likes crashing cars in Burnout.... or solitaire (BOO!)

That's awesome that your wife is supporting a front projection system in the house. Most wives would find it unpracticle I would think..

Although.. there is that factor that they can brag to all their friends that they have a movie theatre in their house. (the problem there, would be convincing her that spending a few grand more on 1080p was important! Haha.

My wife hates gaming, but she does love our projector. Last summer while on Cape Cod, we watched a DVD and she just complained about how much better it would be at home :D

Now I just need to convince her we need 1080P.

Tell that 2 the 360 kid. My point is, he got the system that WORKS for him. If the 360 would have filled the need, he'd still have it. Right?
BTW- I have both (sold the WII).

Perk is my girlfriend is a semi-gamer (mostly an MMORPG'er) so while she's grinding scoring uber gear I got the living room to myself!

It seems more like he got the PS3 for blu-ray and ditched the 360 because his wife wouldn't let him have both

I'm sure he will get plenty of use out of it. My PS3 gets a fair amount of use for movies. It would get a lot more if I bought dual format games for the PS3, but I love achievements as I feel they add a lot to my gaming enjoyment and replay value.

Ha my wife was exactly the same way. First came Xbox 360. And she had a shit over the $499 plus invested. Then I got a Wii:mad: . Although I am a big Nintendo fan I was turned off by the kiddie aspect and the motion controllers. I sold the Wii lot for a tidy profit on Ebay:banana: . No tears shed. I kept 360 and loved it online and even bought the HD DVD drive:eek: . Later I traded in the xbox 360 lot and that paid for a new 60 GB PS3, games, and some blu rays:banana: . In the end I like just having one console that can do it all, play through hdmi, blu ray, dvd, games, store photos, mp3's, you name it! All wrapped in one console with no add ons. And being a married man, you will catch major shit having three consoles lined up next to each other every time there is a finace dispute :-C

Not married yet, but yes, I'm already there.

If I go over my spending limit, she quickly throws a fit about the "useless stuff I keep buying."

Haha, oh well. Whenever she wants a new outfit, "sure thing honey!"

My wife doesn't really care what 'useless toys' I spend my money on, as long as that money doesn't come out of our bank account. Thankfully I make extra money in tips and 'side' work.... wish it was more though.

That's funny.. because there is this guy that has some "side" work too. His consists of going to the casino on lunch break from work once or twice at week. He happens to be really good at poker, so he just limits himself to a certain amount, and usually comes out way on top. Thats how he funds his golf habit haha.

Well, our situation is a bit different as well. We both have our masters degrees and paying off a lot of school loans, A LOT. We are also saving for our first house. She doesn't make any big purchases and I don't either.

So, she said, if one console leaves, and helps pay for the new one, then I can have the PS3. So, all of that on top of the fact she hates it when I play games, I felt like it was a fair deal. Plus, I don't want to have to sleep on the couch for a month.

Resistance was a good shooter. I enjoyed it. It was one of my two first PS3 games, stupidly I got Untold Legends haha, so my friend and I took turns burning through it.

So.... does this guy who does side 'work' at a casino happen to live in Tempe

I wish I could win gambling.... but my lola stole all my filipino good gambling luck. The retirement home she's in even has buses to take them to whatever casino they want, granted they are crappy SoCal Casinos but if it keeps her occupied... To add to that I wish I could golf, because I suck so bad at golfing that my wife can beat my ass badly at it :o

Most of my side work is just minor computer help/upgrades or turning a wrench for people I know. Occasionally I'll help with catering an event, which is decent... beers always free!

My wife does not care that I have both 360 and PS3. She is not a gamer but she was hooked on Lego Star Wars. I have to say that I would not have played this game by myself, but it was a lot of fun playing it with her. It has easy controls and auto aim which was really good for my wife. My wife liked it so much she told her sister about it and now she's hooked. Both of them can't wait for Lego Indy Jones and Batman. I would recomend these games to anyone who wants to game with their non-gamer wives. Just keep them happy and maybe they won't mind if you have both consoles.

I've found that any CO-OP style game gets good reception here in my house. My girlfriend isn't much of a gamer like me, but she enjoys watching my play horror games.
