Hello everybody,
I looked through a couple of pages and didnt see anything about this tv, so sorry if it is out there somewhere and I am starting a new thread. I have on hold a Toshibaź (52XV540U) 52" 1080p Full HD LCD TV for $2,099 and I would like some feedback before I commit to buy. There are no reviews for it because it is so new.. It is toshiba's new l1080p line with 120 hertz. I think this is a great price for a 52", and for it to be 120 hertz also, I believe it is a great deal. Please correct me if I am wrong. I would really like to hear from someone who has seen it with their own eyes.. Best buy or circuit city dont even have it yet..and I can have it delivered on 2 weeks. I can always return it if I dont like it, but I think it will be a nice pic. I had a samsung ln-t4665 that i paid $1799 for, and I thought it had a pretty nice pic, but I couldnt pass up the chance for 6" more, and adding 120 hertz for $300.. If anyone has any insight or suggestions, please reply. Any info would be appreciated, towards this toshiba, or hd lcd in general. Thanks!

From the standpoints of being an owner of and tester/reviewer of LCD TV's my assessment is that Toshiba Regza TV's are currently the best LCD sets available. Although I am not sure whether the 120hz technology will be of any benefit, because the TV itself is awesome as it stands. Once you watch it, your older Samsung will pale in comparison. I would strongly suggest that you get yourself an Avia or DVE (Digital Video Essentials) calibration disc and calibrate all of the TV's inputs before you settle down for any extended watching. Once calibrated your new TV will give you years of uncompromising HD viewing pleasure.

Just a heads up...some people despise the 120hz while watching movies...they say it looks too real. It's just something to keep in mnd because everyone's tastes (perhaps yours) will be different.

It is my understanding the feature can be turned off though. I could be completely wrong.

Enjoy the Toshiba as they really have separated themselves along with Sony in the LCD market IYAM.

Thanks for you insight.. I went ahead and purchased this tv this morning, we'll see how long it take to get it, says allow 10 days to ship, and 7 for actual delivery..and its coming from Toshiba, so hopefully in 2 weeks..LOL I will update with a review of the new LCD.. As far as I know also, you can turn the 120 hertz on and off...and most sets that have 120 hertz has a demo mode that splits the screen, and that is what you see at the retailers such as BB and CC.. its not a video playing with the screen split, but actually the tv with a demo mode on that splits the screen with an option turned on. I really hope this TV kicks ass, as that is the expectation;) If anyone else has seen this lcd, please share.. thanks!

www.buydig.com has it for that price also and anyone can get it delivered for free with no tax also.

It should be a fantastic HDTV, I think Toshiba is one of the best LCDs on the market.

Don't laugh, but i'm just now jumping into the HD world. I've had an old Proscan RP that has been outstanding for almost 15 years. But now I'm wrestling b/w 52 inches of this Toshiba Regza or 46 of the Sony Bravia W4100.

Has the Toshiba lived up to your expectations?

I looked at LCD's and Plasma for about a year, and I just bought the Toshiba. All I can say is WOW. The display unit was next to a Samsung and a Sony, and the picture was better than both of those. The viewing angle is very good, and the 120hz helps with fast motions. The only thing that I don't like is that the menus sometimes don't allow for very fine picture tuning, but that is it. The TV has ample inputs, and the speakers that are built in are good enough to hold you over until get it hooked up to the sound system. Plus, I got it at a special price at the local Conns for $1400, which is the same price as most of the 46" 120hz LCD's.

Hope this helps

I am comparing the Toshiba 52XV540U with the Samsung LN52A550, the Samsung PN50A550 and the Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ80U... any thoughts on these? I am purchasing with airline miles, so price isn't a concern... ultimately I just want the best set. Thanks!

Go with the Panasonic plasma. Deeper black levels, more shadow detail and vivid colors besides having excellent off axis viewing.

Just bought the same set at Conn's last week to replace my older DLP. We agree...tremendous PQ and a great buy. Enough controls to keep even the most picky, pesky technofile satisfied.
