Wednesday, 16 April 2008

Its clients include major studios such as Universal and Warner, leading Russian companies and distributors as well as large publishing houses.

"With this order we continue to strengthen our position in Europe as the market leader in the optical disc sector," comments Stefan Baustert, CEO of Singulus Technologies. "Our target is to achieve a global market share of more than 65% for Blu-ray machines."

Laser-Video, the largest producer for optical disc in Eastern Europe, has invested heavily in Blu-ray technology and, in particular, BD50.

Vadim Yaroshenko, CEO of Laser-Video, say, "We believe that our choice of Singulus as a business partner will significantly improve our performance in the new Blu-ray market. Singulus's know how in the area of optical discs and particularly for Blu-ray will considerably speed up our market penetration."

Hope it doesn't backfire. Word from my relatives is the new govt. over there is trying to do too much cutting edge. I wonder if this is one of those things. Their economy was a mess, now they have less debt than us! Not saying they are anything close to super power they were, but they're trying. There's all kinds of govt funding for anything considered "cutting edge" right now. I bet that's where this is coming from.

They're doing the whole Paul Volker model of essentially depriving the country to fix it's mess. Kinda like the U.S. should do now.

Very well could be. I'd guess there is a decent market in Russia for new tech. Many Russians have been making good money, or so I've heard.

They've always been into chemical engineering over there (:huh ). That's what most of my relatives over there do. I'm going to have to email a few cousins and uncles and see if any of them have heard of this.
