DTV $50 Referral credit

I've had DTV for about 5 months. During this time I've been reasonably happy with the product itself. However, I'm a little less than thrilled with their customer service. My father in law purchased DTV a month or so after I did and used my name as a referrence. For referring another customer I was supposed to receive a $50 credit ($10 per month for five months). After not seeing any credit to my account for the last couple months, I contacted DTV and asked them about it. Initially I was told that he didn't call the right number, but I would be eligible for this if I provided his account information. After speaking with him about it, I discovered he did ask about it, and did call the number he was told to call. Now DTV is telling me that because he didn't call the correct phone number, I'm not eligible to receive the credit.

Has anyone else had this happen?

I'll be honest, $50 isn't going to break me. However, it will help me decide where to subscribe from when my contract comes up in November.

Call and ask for Customer Retention. They'll give it to you.

Update:

A manager from DTV contacted me tonight about the referral and once again, I was informed that because my father in law didn't call the right phone number there was no way I would be able to get my credit. Apparently the website is very clear that there is only one phone number someone can call in order to receive credit. I informed her that he did call the correct number and she said there was nothing that could be done about it. I told her how I felt and hung up on her.

Call back, call retention and bitch like you've never bitched. It is wrong what happened, and you should let them know how you feel.

If no success, call back over & over & over. The right person WILL help you, and most likely compensate you for more because of the aggravation & thoughts of fraudulent service you've received.

Even though you talked to a manager, there's no way to tell that you really did, might have just been a regular CSR.

Perhaps a few low passes over the D* HQ with a Messerschmidt yelling Bonsai might get their attention.
