They're really testing my metal with this one. I could give a damn less about what The Matrix box ends up looking like on Blu-Ray or what they stuff into it, but this....this....this... is just

Do we know whats included in the special edition?

Might be worth a double dip if it's good enough, but, truth be told, I absolutely hate boxed discs.

Planet Earth
Ocean's Trilogy
Matrix Trilogy
Resident Evil

All of them have been stripped of their box and put in with the rest box-free. :D

Same here. I've got quite the collection of box's and slip covers in my living room closet:D

But here is what's included. Personally, I don't think it's worth it, but damn that box art is sweet. Maybe if they can squeeze a little more goodness with a new encode I'd pick it up. The HD DVD already looks pretty good.

The best thing is it comes with the first 6 minutes of The Dark Knight in full 1080p goodness. That might do it for me. I'm easy.

Its well worth the upgrade to HD. This movie looks great. Even if you don't get this one, I'd recommend grabbing the HD DVD. I'm sure you could find it for 10-15 bucks tops.

I thought the DVD looked very decent upscaled via the PS3. Although I'd imagine that the HD or BD would look better, I just don't feel the need to DD on this one. :what:

Yeah, they all have I think. The only US HD DVD release I can think of that was purely in cardboard packaging (no jewel case inside) was Heroes Season 1.

My Matrix Trilogy
Jack Ryan Collection
Spiderman Trilogy
Stanley Kubrick Collection
Ultimate Bourne Collection
Planet Earth

all came with the films in normal packaging within an outer sleeve.

I've a feeling this is going to be a straight "port" of the HD DVD ver released nearly 2 years ago. So I think I'll pass on the limited edition lark and save myself $50. Unless that Batman set emerges and is great.

Yeah, i am also not getting my hopes up high for a new encode. Warner don't seem to care a lot about these things so far.

Oh well, i only watched the film once and didn't really feel the need to get the HD DVD, even during the sales. Guess i might pass on the BD as well if the transfer stays the same.

I already double dipped for the HD DVD version after already woning the SD version. I will not be triple dipping on this one.

To Kamspy:

I wish you had put that it was Batman Begins and not that TV movie version in the title. I almost skipped this thread because I thought it was about the TV movie not BB. ;)

Hmmm, should I double dip just to get this with extras?

Remember when BB used to be the HD DVD reference disc? I didn't own a player then but it was one of the first HD DVD's I bought when I finally got one.

Yeah, though I never really understood why. Must resist urge to get unecessary novelties in nice big box set... It was well worth owning a HD DVD player for just because it's such a great film though.

Think of it this way. The cost of the HD-DVD was less than the price of two theater tickets with cokes and popcorn. And you didn't even get to take home anything for your trouble. Did seeing it in the theater stop you from buying the disc? ;)

I've actually began avoiding the theater because it adds to what I spend on one movie. Say for instance, Batman Begins! $13 for two tickets (@theataro el cheapo:D), 1 gallon of pepsi $5, 1 cubic foot of popcorn $5. Comes to $23. Tack on the HD DVD purchase $24.99, and I'm up to about $50 for that movie. Kinda steep. If I went to the good theater to see it, that price would be somewhere around $75-$85 (they've got chili cheese nachos:o ). Took the kids to play in a big dark room with Shrek the 3rd playing on the wall. $50, DVD $20. That's $70 on a Shrek the 3rd.:banghead:

So, I'll still break down and see Dark Knight in theaters this season, as well as Indy 4, and I'll buy the eventual BDs of both.:banghead: But I've really cut down on going out to see anything that isn't HUGE in a theater. I'm also done taking the kids to play in a big dark room with a movie playing on the wall too. Just not a good experience.

If you don't own the HD-DVD (like me for example) then this is a must buy but from what I hear other then The Dark Knight promotional video this release is pretty much identical with the HD-DVD. Hope Warner takes advantage of Blu-Rays extra capacity and gives us the DVD extras in HD but I doubt they will. If you own the HD-DVD I recommend spending your money on Batman Gotham Knight on Blu-Ray.

That is exactly why I will not double dip, I have the HD DVD. It is however quite worth it if you have the standard DVD or none at all.

I have already preordered both Batman Begins and Batman Gotham Knight on Blu-Ray. I can't wait to watch both movies in high definition leading me right into The Dark Knight.

Get the special edition Jimmy. It has the first 6 minutes of The Dark Knight in full 1080p. Plus, it comes with a coupon for a free ticket to see Dark Knight.

The 6 minutes is on the standard Blu-Ray as well. Even if it wasn't I refuse to pay extra for promotional material. Even if its really good promotional material. Not to mention the ticket is worth $7.50 but the special edition is $15 more then the standard Blu-Ray. All other items in it seem to be of no intrest to me. On my limited budget I can hardly afford them as it is. One is a movie I already own on standard DVD and the other is a movie I have never seen. Spending full price on such items is rare for me but for a masterpeice like Batman Begins I have to make exception.

Have the HD DVD. Loved the movie in the theater, but have only re-watched it like once, so I don't see myself getting it again on Blu. Will likely watch it again before seeing the next movie as a refresher.

Same here. I think i`ll wait for the tripple dip box set, complete with TDK, the 60's batman movie and all the Clooney looniness. :D I'm not a great friend of the franchise tbh.

Was there not meant to be a "Batman Collection" coming out on BD with everything sans The Dark Knight at somepoint this year? Or did Mr Hunt get his wires crossed?

I really hope that Batman Begins never gets bundled up with the cinematic waterboarding known as Batman and Robin. Since Batman Begins isn't in any continuity or style as any of the previous Batman movies its better to keep them separate. Though a three pack with Batman Begins, Batman Gotham Knight, and The Dark Knight would be appropriate and could be out before years end. Still I certainly can't wait that long.
