MLB 2K8 Patch Released

raiderfan

Just read this morning on the 2k Forums that the patch for the framerate and other bugs were released. From what people there have said is that it fixed the choppiness with the throwing and pitching. Actually plays smooth and you are able to wait on pitches and work counts. I'm at work, so haven't checked any of this out yet, but will when i get home. I also read there that roster updates should be out within the next week. That's what I am waiting for before i start a franchise.

Anyways... Just wondering if anyone else here has recieved the patch and played since. Or if anyone here even still plays the game?!?!? ;) Thanks.

I'm looking foward to the patch. I have played about 50 games in Franchise and am really liking it. The only drawback is online. If this fixes it, I'm in. I've played 3 live games and all three times my opponent quit after a few innings so I just gave up.

Nips, send me an invite some time, we can check it out.

they said the patch mainly fixed the offline gameplay. the online has to do with yours and your opponents internet connection, for the most part. People did say that they were able to take pitches and not guess at pitches (swing blindly) after the patch. I have not played online so i don't know.

I'm gonna wait until the roster update to start my franchise. I'm just doing exb games to use as practice. I took to the pitching pretty well. Struck out like 7 with ben sheets in 7 innings on pro. Not having the cpu hit the gaps all of the time problem with my games. From what i have read is if you increase the batter skill slider (for both human and AI) you will see a much greater variety of hits.

i updated the rosters myself. you do know that you can control trades during franchise right? this allows you to make trades between cpu controlled teams. this is great so people don't have to start over when a big trade goes down.

i also edited the names of most of the prospects.

as for the game i'm loving it. outside of the framerate issues it's a pretty good game. if this update makes it better then great this games becomes the 2nd best baseball game i have ever played, i can't put it past the last MVP until i see what the update fixes.

let us know about the patch today, if you can. i came home from work yesterday, started doing some work in the yard and then ended up drinking beer with my neighbor, so i never even downloaded the damn patch!!

Yeah i know i can do the trades myself, but there are way too many for me to sit and do. Bedard isn't even on the mariners yet!! The yankees alone have many roster changes to make, never mind the teams i'm not even familiar with. Nah, i will wait for the first update and then do the rosters in season as in season trades are made.

you guys know how to DIRECT/AIM your bunt??? I know to bunt you push the X button, but its aimed right at the pitcher. I can't seem to move the arrow to third or first base to aim it down one of the lines. Its probably something simple that i'm not doing, but its killing me!!

Nevermind... I found it. You have to hold LT or RT to aim the bunt where you want it to go. Man, is it just me or are the insruction booklets to games getting more and more pathetic? :what:

So any opinions since the patch? I bought the game release day, played a few games and thought it was ok but when I went online its was horrible. I know some people say its got to do with the connections but I dont think thats 100% accurate. My connection is always on point and I was playing the game with a freind whose connection is equally as good and it was still really bad, we play NBA2K8 all the time amongst other games and never have problems like in that game. For me personally, the online feature was gonna make or break the game and sadly it broke it for me. Maybe this patch can getme to go re-buy this game????

I'm thinking about trading in RB6v2 for this if I get some good feedback.. I read on the pastapadre site that the lag is "slightly better" but still not on par w/ other sports games.

I love the single player franchise mode, All Star difficulty is a lot of fun with no sliders. I like this game more and more each time a play it.

Did anyone play today? They included the new maps in a free for all now. Pretty cool

I can't give you any feedback on the online mode of the game, as i don't play it. Online in sports games, for me, is not important -- unless i'm in a league. To just play vs someone else isn't that important to me. So Mikey can fill you guys in on that aspect. From what i have read on the 2k forums is that it is better, but still not good. This patch was for offline, franchise mode...

I played the game pre-patch and i've gotta say i didn't think it was a bad game at all, once i got used to it. I never experienced any "hiccup" between camera angle changes and once i got the pitching mechanics down (which i do like) the "comp hitting everything to the gaps" problem does not happen at all. So the only issue i really had pre-patch was the choppiness with which it played. This was especially visual when fielding a ground ball from across the diamond and throwing to first. Post-patch this isn't an issue as throws and movements are pretty smooth. (The patch also fixed some glitch with the Padres Franchise -- for any Padres fans out there. It is now safe to play with them as your team!!)

So basically this was an offline, framerate patch that seemed to do the job. The instant replays at the very end of the game are still choppy, however, but after a seeing them for a couple of games, these are the types of things i would end up skipping through anyways! I enjoy this game and don't thinks its close to as bad as people said. I'm def not saying its the best baseball game i've played or that i would choose this over "the show", however, it definitely is a game i'll play for baseball season and have fun with (once the damn roster updates come in!!!!)

**As for me not witnessing choppiness or the camera hiccup, i play all games at 720p (thats the best my tv does). I don't know if that would have something to do with me not having the hiccup problems that others saw and complained about. I read that 720 is the best to game on because its smoother, but I have no clue about this.

OK, online play still SUCKS. I have a great connection and was playing against a guy who had a good connection too. The game play was still lagging. Both hitting and pitching were difficult. Fielding and throwing seemed a little better, but not enough. When you had runners on base the game play was lagging even worse. And as usual, once I went up in the third inning by 6 runs, he quit. I have now tried to play 5 times and all five times I have been winning and my opponent has quit.
So to recap, if youíre looking to play a lot of online games, don't buy this one. If youíre looking for a fun single player game with a lot of depth and solid game play, definitely buy this game. The card feature is a lot of fun, the tournaments are great and the franchise mode is fantastic. I still highly recommend this game to any baseball fan. The update has fixed any lag on single player.

Hitting is still tricky for me but i am getting better. I switched to the classic control for pitching.

I tried the classic mode for pitching too. But after I went back and played a few games, I really enjoy the new style. I rarely miss a pitch and it does mimic a pitching motion.

Hitting and pitching is a cinch now that I am 80 games into a season. I drafted my own team and have an all star at every position expect one. I do like All Star mode, I split just about every series and play a lot of close games. If I'm playing a good team, I usually get shelled. Keeps it interesting. If I could just figure out the card system, it will be all good.

Hey Mikey, when you get time can you post what the standings and some of the stats look like for your franchise? I'm always interested in how that looks.

I'm playing a Franchise with the Dodgers for MLB The Show, but I'm only about 20 games in. When I get about halfway I'll post some stuff.

yeah, hitting is def tough at first... however, i'm getting the hang of it. i just got beat by cleveland 4-2, but out-hit them 11-9 (just couldn't come through with the "big" hit when i needed it). I like the new pitching, and its def my strong point right now. these sliders i'm using are near perfect for a sim style game, too.

mikeymo

I'm just about at the All Star Break and here are some stats

Player Avg. HR RBI SB
Jose Reyes 410 21 42 101
Chone Figgins .304 6 81 44
Matt Holiday .456 44 109 0
Carl Crawford .386 35 87 33
Derrick Lee .466 51 136 0
Mosis Alou .435 27 112 0
Benji Molina .289 22 66 0
Brian Roberts .300 8 34 40

Staff Record ERA
CC Sabathia 10-1 .345
Greg Maddux 12-1 .389
Kenny Rogers 10-3 .419
Tom Glavine 12-2 .301
Brad Penny 13-3 .409

My bullpen usually gets rocked that is where all my losses are. Overall I am 62-19. I average 8.2 runs a game and give up 4.5.

The first 40 games or so were played on Pro level which was obviously pretty easy once you got the hang of it. Now I play half and half between Pro and All Star. My stats really start to balance on All Star, I just get frustrated when I get my butt kicked and switch back.

I like having the speed on my team, I always have guys in scoring position.

i play on custom all star. those .400 + avgs would make me lose interest in my franchise. my biggest gripe with baseball games was that it was always too easy to hit, producing unrealistic batting avg's.

i put in some sliders that this guy created on couple of other forums and they are near perfect. a great starting point anyways, and then some personal tweaking is needed. my games are all realistic. once i start to get the timing down on hitting, i'll have to move that slider back some (as i moved it up from where the guy had it set.) too early in my 'chise to post any stats.

everyday i say, "i'm gonna get on cod4 late night, tonight," and it never happens... usually end up drunk and just say fuck it... however, everytime i go down to my basement to fire up the 360 i end up just playing mlb 2k8 -- i'm really starting to love this game. having super-realistic games keeps drawing me back.

I am wanting a decent baseball game but hate to buy and then find it not to my liking. I have probably wasted more money on sports games thru the years than any other type of game. Buying them only to find they are not real fun to play. Many Maddens come to mind. Does the game have old timers in it? Or is it just this years teams and players? How long does it usually take to play a 9 inning game. And does the game do a good job of making you manage your pitchers and bullpen during a game?

well, i had the same concerns too.. however, me having a 360, it was buy this game or go w/out a baseball game for the year -- again. so after reading some at the 2k forums, i found out that a patch was scheduled to be released to fix the glitchy framerate issues for offline play, with a new roster update scheduled soon after that. so i bought it and actually really like it. (although i am in the minority there, i'll warn you).

i don't know about the old timers (stuff like that doesn;t interest me, so i haven't even checked for it). 9 inning games are pretty quick, maybe a half hour or so (but that also depends on how you pitch and play defense -- if you are getting jocked, you are gonna extend the game time quite a bit). It does require you to manage your pitchers and bullpen, but i don't think its much different than any other baseball game.

if you are looking for a sim style game, imo, this is a good buy. however rent it first, because like i have said, some people hate it. they hate the new pitching style or some hate the hitting. if you have a PS3, you could also choose "The Show".

mikeymo
04-25-2008, 06:37 AM
Buy it!! I hated it the first week and had it packed and ready to bring back. But I finally figured out the pitching mechanic and its been all good. You can adjust the highlights in between plays and innings and it really speeds up the game. Pitchers can throw a complete game but you have ample opportunity to manage the bullpen.\
After a few weeks switch to All Star mode or make some slider adjustments and you will find it challanging and rewarding just like Nips said.

out of those 17, 5 came in 1 game when i beat the orioles 10-1 and 3 hr's were hit by Beltre himself

then i hit 4 more in another game...

What i seem to do really well is pitch, ( I do use the classic style)

i guess that's ok.. i don't know my team total through 27 games. I have a pretty good lineup with the white sox, too. but thome def leads the team, with konerko second.

what i LOVE about this game (or the sliders, anyways) is the batting avgs... i have NO super high, super unrealistic batting avgs. i always seemed to have that problem and it bugged me. my buddy even commented saying thome's avg was way low. it was .256 at the time, with 7hrs and 13 rbi's... I said think about it, thome will hit between .250 and .265 every year -- he's doing what he is supposed to do.

i have to tweak the cpu batting contact up and my total control pitching difficulty up to try and make it harder for me to pitch and easier for the comp to hit. if i can do that, i'm gonna be one happy camper through the baseball season. regardless, i'm very pleased that i decided to buy this game.

i have to tweak the cpu batting contact up and my total control pitching difficulty up to try and make it harder for me to pitch and easier for the comp to hit. if i can do that, i'm gonna be one happy camper through the baseball season. regardless, i'm very pleased that i decided to buy this game.

Yeah i am glad i rebought the game. My avgs are all over the board. Right now i have 1 guy that is hitting around 420(Johijma) a couple 300 and the rest 250 or below.

One thing i noticed is the AI really steps up in the event of a series sweep, I have played 2 series and went into game 3 with a chance to sweep and the CPU shut me down both times.

I know I play THE SHOW, but my Dodger MVP so far is Andruw Jones:

.441 AVG
4 HR
21 RBI's

Through 22 games.

After reading about you guys having fun with the game, I decided to pick it up. Found it on ebay for $40 and the price seemed right. Just received it today and have given it a whirl. Seems to be ok so far. Pitching is not so bad. I have only been able to hit singles so far. Being a Pirate fan it seems I will have little luck winning too many games. I want to play with their default setting so I will see how it goes. After a week or so, I am sure I will have a better grasp on the game. Will start a franchise after I learn the button layout. Pretty thin manual.

pathetic manual, you should use the sliders that we use, makes the game pretty realistic

i just tweaked my sliders a bit last night. AI batting contact +10 and human tot control pitching +5... i did it mid game, and ended up losing 5-3 and was outhit 9-7 by the A's, so i'm interested as to how it will play out in a full game.

I do notice also, that if your sweeping a series the AI kicks up. Or if you are facing a good pitcher the game is much more competitive. I've finally gotten over the years of always winning every game by ten runs and enjoy the more realistic, lower scoring games.
I'm a little over .500 in the second half of my franchise after adjustments you have recommended. I can't wait until the playoffs.

Is there a post with all the slider adjustments everyone is using? Or do you just wing it. Looking for any recommendations. Thanks.

there is a guy that has these sliders posted on different boards... he has gotten great reviews on them. i use them myself and noticed a big difference. they are a great starting point, and then personally tweak them to suit your style.

his name is something like SFGIANTSPBA. He can easily be found on the 2ksports baseball forums. just go into the slider threads and he will be on there (he's actually everywhere) and his most updated sliders are in his signature. Just click on it and adjust yours to his.

I googled his name and got the information. Thanks. Played about 5 innings and was losing 10 to 0. All of the opposing runs were because of home runs. 6, I believe. And the balls they hit were not just fat pitches down the middle. Guess I still have some work to do.

See, that's why I hate playing these sports games nowadays where they expect you to fuck w/ sliders till you get it right.. Bullshit, I wanna put it in and play a decent game.

Eck,
I think the average player likes to put the game in and beat the crap out of the AI. Thatís probably why they have different skill levels to select in the beginning. Personally, I havenít changed anything on All Star level and I'm about .500. Probably because I suck, but it is very competitive.

Probably the main reason I haven't played a franchise/association/dynasty in a sports game since the PS2.
I really only enjoy playing against other humans.

What level are you guys playing on? I've found that with baseball, when I play in the highest or second to the highest difficulty I end up getting good results. I never mess with sliders myself.

All Star and I don't have to touch the sliders.
