Any opinions about the '08 Panasonics?

Greetings,

I'm trying to do some research to get a 37" LCD TV for my elderly mother who is downsizing into an assisted living situation. Her viewing distance is probably 7-8 feet and I thought anything larger than 37" would be too big. I suspect that ultimately, I will end up with whatever TV I get for her now, so I want to make a good pick, both for her viewing pleasure and also so it won't be something that immediately becomes obsolete.

I see that the new Panasonics are coming out now, but I can't seem to find any reviews or info on them. Does anyone have an opinion about Model #TC-37LZ800?

I need to have it delivered by 4/18 because there's no space for her big 36" Toshiba CRT, and her apartment needs to be "turn-key" for her by 4/21.

Thanks!

JudyM

Looks like it's still waiting arrival stateside. You may have to look elsewhere. I'd recommend a Toshiba if you cannot get the Panasonic in time. If the Panasonic follows their '07 LCD line, it will be a fantastic set.

I got the 32lx700 and it is the greatest soundwise (for a set of this type), PQ-wise both HD and SD. Can't imagine how the 800 series will top it...

I'm now in the market for a 50" panny plasma. Originally, I was going to get the 50pz750 (know the PQ wag reat, but also interested in the pro-setup), but as I waited for prices to come down (which they haven't), I started to get interested in the 80/85 as they could cost less and give a great picture. But, although here haven't been any professional reviews, I have seen some consumer reviews of the 80/85 and in a limited sense it seems that the PQs were all that better than the 700/750 series...even with the increased CRs of the newer models. So, now I'm starting to lean back towards the 750. Anyone care to comment?

We love our Grandmas but she does not need 1080p. 720p will do just fine. Save some money over the Panasonic and get the 2008 Toshiba 37AV500 for $849 at CC, BB or crutchfield.com.

Also, if there is no space for her 36" Toshiba CRT will a wider 37" LCD fit? Is her TV going inside a cabinet?
