Refurbished eBay Toshiba 34"

Being on a budget I was stuck to buying a 30" CRT HDTV, which was rather disappointing to me because I would end up with a picture smaller than my current TV on 4:3 images. I looked on ebay and found these two sellers:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=11072&item=5766386591&rd=1
which offers a 2 year warranty for 80 and a 4 year for 120
and
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5766132399&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1
which is cheaper originally but offer much more expensive 2 year($120) and 4 year($150) warranty.

What do you guys think? Bad idea? and if not, should I get a warranty? One of the sellers says that refurbs have 1/10th of the defect rate that new items have since they are fully tested before shipping out. Well, for the price of the 30" sony i could get a 34" toshiba with a 4 year warranty shipped to my house with no sales tax. Anyone have any ebay experiences?

Have you looked at other refurb sites - try going through Amazon. Toshiba factory refurbs will carry the full manufacturer's warranty.

Both of those offer the same manufacturer's warranty as the refurbished sites and are cheaper and cost less to ship.

 I've bought two products in my lifetime that were refurbished.A Video
recorder which worked for a day and then broke down...and from a totally different store I bought a dvd player that was refurbished and and also broke down within a day.

I have not bought ANYTHING refurbished since that last time.
I'd be stupid to do that.
Once burned..you don't go back and get burned again.Unless you enjoy fixing things. Then THAT'S a different story.

I responded to your inquiry in the HD Lounge, but I felt I had to reply here since I and at least one other poster to this board have had good experiences with SavingLots and refurb Toshiba 34's. While I was dubious about buying a refurb, the deal was too good to not consider it, and I couldn't have afforded a 34 otherwise.

The 34HFX83x looks better than the other unit because even though neither has HDMI, at least the 83x has a DVI input (though you might want to compare the specs at Tosh's website).

You might want to search a little more and price the 34HFX84 which has two HDMI inputs, but has been out long enough that you might find a good deal on a refurb.

I think the 83x might just be a misprint, as toshiba only lists the 83 version. It has a DVI so I assume its the same one. Anyone do you think based on your experiences its worth 120 dollars for a 4 year warranty?

Check the details, or call... Will you have to send in the tv or is there a local repair that will send a tech, should something happen? That would make a difference with a third party warranty. Not saying they are bad, just know beforehand before you 'sign' an agreement.

I have bought a camera (refub) from ebay with no problem. The 30" tv (a discontinued new) I bought last fall was received with no problems, from factory outlet store - not ebay but still entirely online.
