HGTV HD and Food HD now Simulcast

HGTV HD and Food Network HD now simulcast with their SD channels.

I wish they left it alone. Now most of their programming is stretch-o-vision.

Yep, I am very disappointed that they did what they did here. I tuned to Food HD and saw Emeril stretching out his Chef coat even more than he usually does. This better be temporary, the stretch-o-vision I mean. I knew they were gonna do the simulcast, but I know I read somewhere that they had caught up and now had enough content filmed in HD that this type of thing wouldn't happen. Anyone else read something like that or am I dreaming?

When I first got my 52 inch Sharp LCD to go with the new HD channels from DTV my wifr would comment on how great the picture was on that channel. Say it ain't so!

i am glad! i hated that food hd wasnt the same as food sd. now dtv just needs to switch the order of them so that the number goes directly to the hd channel like the others.

After yet another banning I didn't plan on coming back but I had to point out that in exchange for the new HD versions of HGTV and Food Network, D* has removed the HD only versions, 229-1 and 231-1, which featured different programming from the SD channels. Those were part of the extra 5 bucks a month, weren't they?

In fact when I went to add the new channels in Favorites, they were already checked on. What kind of scam is this?

Also, and this may have been mentioned since I was last here, the D* website shows Chiller and BET as being in HD now. Oh well, I guess these are better lies than what Dish and Comcast are putting out.

No those were not part of the $5 package since they had SD equivalents.

HGTV has tons of HD content, so the majority of programming on HGTV is not stretched SD.

And from the posts in this thread, some people seem to blame Directv for the simulcast, of course we all know differently, right?

And the DTV website has a few channels already in HD when they are not. No biggie, I guess this means they are in the works.

No, they didn't have SD equivalents, they showed distinctly different programming from the SD version. You know the channels I'm talking about, right? I would assume that since the regular channels are now in HD all those shows will be shown there now, so both channels probably dropped their HD only feeds. Just a guess.

Sounds right. They were not part of the "extra" though.

DTV didn't remove them; Scripps did when they went simulcast this week. Upside is you can now watch the shows at the usual time, at least on the east coast, in HD (if they exist in HD). Downside is not all their regular schedule is HD, hence the stretch-o-vision. And having worked there for three years, I can tell you they're not likely to fix it any time soon.

Of course it wasn't a simulcast, but HGTV and Food Network had SD and HD channels on DTV and therefore wasn't a part of the $5/mo package. Channels like Smithsonian (without a SD channel whatsoever on DTV) were part of the package. I knew exactly what you meant and knew what the package entailed. And for the record they didn't show "distinctively" different programs, they showed the same programs but the ones shot in HD only. I'm afraid now that some of the SD programs will find their way onto the simulcast but HGTV (never watch Food SD or HD) had a ton of the same programs that were on their SD channel, but shot thankfully in HD.

Can anyone explain to me why Paula Deen merits HD production of her show and Emeril doesn't? Makes no sense to me...:what:

Darn. I was hoping that wouldn't happen, but kind of figured it would.

Maybe you didn't give the moderator a good enough blow job. There, that should do it.

There is no knock down drag out. He's just keeps getting dragged out. I don't see my account getting suspended.

This is all him.
