I was setting up my DVR tonight to start recording Cleveland Indians baseball games next week. I went to Sports Time Ohio(657) and it is not listed in HD. This is my regional sports station.

I know that all the Indians games will be in HD this year, but is there 2 channels (One HD and one SD like ESPN and so on)?

Thanks for all you help......

Back when the Tribe was on FS Ohio, the MLB extra innings feed was available on a different channel number if the game was on, whether or not you had MLB extra innings. If they don't add STO, try the MLB extra innings superfan channel and see if its not blocked.

I'd rather see 657-1 in my program guide.

The good news is that I actually get STO this year - not only was STO not available in southeast Ohio, they blocked all the espn and espn 2 games except for the Sunday night games ever since STO started.

I called D* and they said that it will be on channel 657-1 starting Monday. So, let's sit back and watch the Tribe make their way to the series! Nothing better then to be in "Indians Reservation"!!

According to the STO website, DirecTv will only broadcast the games in HD, not all of the other programming. I'm not sure I wanted to see Bruce Drennan in HD anyway...

Since Directv is putting it on 657-1, you'll have to live with Bruce Drennan in Hi-Def, talk about ugly TV.

Unfortunately is appears they will cut the HD after the games are over. They do this with Cavs games on FSN Ohio, 637-1. I hope the new bird will help with these apparent bandwidth problems.

As BitchenKitchen said and per STO:

DirecTV will carry all of our Indians games in HD to their subscribers that reside within the Cleveland Indians TV Territory on channel 657-1. All regular season Indians games on STO will be in HD. Our first HD game is April 2nd.

STO will begin broadcasting STO HD full-time 24/7 starting April 1st. According to DirecTV, they will not be able to carry the full-time STO HD channel until later this summer (another HD satellite was recently sent into orbit and should be operational in August/September).

Right now, I'm jut glad to see the all of Tribe in games in HD.

Well, it should be in HD. Are you saying there is no HD tag. If so, that's quite common. Whever the Lakers play on FSNWest (ch. 652) there is no HD tag, but the game is shown in HD. I'm not sure but it seems as though if the entire broadcast isn't in HD it will not be tagged HD. It'll probably be just like the Laker games, the pre-game and halftime shows are in SD.

Can anyone see 657-1 yet? I've done a reset and no luck.

I called D* and as usual they didn't have an answer on why 657-1 isn't showing up, but said that the game should be on one of these channels - 94 or 96 which is fine as long as it's in HD.

I knew this would happen. SportsTime Ohio is claiming DirecTv says the games will not be broadcast in HD the immediate future because of bandwidth. Their website says maybe Friday's game. I'll go watch Disney Toons HD instead. BULLSH**!

I am pretty pissed about this as well. I just wrote D* a nice little email telling them that there is going to be some pissed off Indians fans if they do not fix this problem. They were willing to cut SD and HD channels for the NFL package and I think they need to do the same for our MLB as well. Let's see what happens.

I just e-mailed and called Directv and let them have it, this is totally bullsh**t. I hope the calls and emails don't end and I agree, what other sport event is going on tomorrow afternoon?!!

DirecTv reply to my email complaint:

"Thanks for writing. I understand how important the Indians are to you and we are working to bring you their games in high definition as soon as possible. We expect to start showing games in HD this weekend. We appreciate your patience and understanding."

I also read on dbstalk that this may be a technical issue not bandwidth.

Stop the presses, I see a 657-1 sighting and it has the Indians game on it tonight...all is well now at the "Indians reservation"! Especially seeing the Tigers lose 3 to the Royals.
GO TRIBE!!

The game did look great and can't wait until 657-1 goes HD full time. Now, we just have to be patience for the Tribe to get their act together.
