I just signed up for this today. Even though I am feeling that DTV is already charging users $10 a month for HD programming, that they have us subscribers that we will pay an additional $50 for the MLB season. Their mailing for the Superfan package states up to 40 games a week in HD with a few extra perks which is approx 1/2 the games shown on MLB Extra Innings. I really like to watch the Red Sox, but living in Az I have no choice but to pay the extra fees to DTV simply because they have me by my short ones. Never mind that DTV is already charging me $169 for MLB Extra Innings!

At least you know the Sox will likely be in HD on there most of the time. The Sox, Yanks, and Mets seem to always be in HD.

Anyone have any news on the new baseball channel that was to begin this season that DTV promised to carry. Assume if it happens it will be similiar to the NFL, NBA, NHL channels.

If I remember correctly they said it would begin in 2009.

The schedule (http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageIF.jsp?assetId=3160004) is now up and I am rather impressed. Most the the games that they are carrying will also be shown in HD. :yippee:

Yeah, I just checked that out, pretty cool, and they show up on my guide now too. I have a question, though, can I get rid of all the non-HD channels in my guide, or will I miss some games, such as the Phillies game on the 31st on ch. 730?

You can set up a favorites list and only include the HD channels. But, you will miss the games are shown in only SD (Actually you will not see them listed in the guide, you can still tune to the channel)

Just looking at the sked..GD FOX blackout rule on Sat afternoons really pisses me off. Also why is there only 1 game on Friday April 4?

Sorry about the hissy fit re the Sat blackout rule.

The Fox blackouts are due to contractual regulations between Fox and MLB. It is an MLB rule, not Direct rule. Just an FYI.

If you notice, Fridays usually have fewer games because many teams broadcast Friday games on local networks instead of their local RSN.

Yes I wasn't dissing Directv it was more of a rant against Fox and MLB.

re the Friday games, I remember last year NYY Yankee games that were being shown on MY9 in NY were also available on MLB EI. Maybe that's changed for this year(I hope not but it looks like it right now).

I have no idea why Fox does this. Actually I do, they do not want national competition for local events. I would think their total ratings would increase if they allowed out of market viewers to choose other out of market games?

Couple comments.. first off, it was quite the surprise last year that yankee games were carried on WWOR, ch. 9 (for those of us in our 30's and above) my9 for the young bucks!! it was the first year EI carried "OTA" games for the yanks. I actually got to watch NY/NNJ news during a couple rain delays!!!

the fox-saturday thing blows!! funny how NBC allows all their national NHL games to be shown on the Center Ice package!!

the friday april 4th schedule listing has got to be a mistake.. ALL teams are playing that day.. and not all are on local channels... we'll see!!!

Do I need to sign up for MLB EI with SF right away if I want to see tomorrows opening day games or is there a free view for the first week?

It is a free preview, but I don't know if the HD is a free preview. Anyway, the Dodgers and Giants game is on ESPN, so you do not need EI to watch it.

cool, thank you. Did you go to the game last night, Dodgers and those dirty old Red Sox?

I enjoyed watching those dirty sox ruin Joe Torre's night in another league, city, and time zone last night! At least the Red Sox weren't named after the favorite thing to do in Brooklyn 100 odd years ago! Playing chicken dodging the street cars.

Nice to hear from these stereo-typical fans of the Red Sox. They always have to stick their noses in where it doesn't belong.

Until 50 years ago the Red Sox played less than 200 miles away from the Brooklyn Dodgers, and yes I do have a big nose! That said I was proud to see the effort put forward by the Dodgers for the game at the LA Coliseum. Oh, BTW did anybody mention that the McCord family that owns the Dodgers is from Boston? Also, it is true that the Dodgers got their name from playing chicken with the streetcars. Honest!

Easy with the hating there bubba...

We may all have our favorite teams, but we're all Baseball fans and therefore, our collective noses belong in anything baseball.

Just curious - has anyone had any success getting the SF for free with a bit of negotiating? Seems like a lot of people were able to get it for free for the NFLST. I may consider the EI, but I object to paying the extra $50 for HD. I'm wondering if anyone has been able to get D* to waive the SF charge for EI.

I can't answer the question, but I did find out that you can watch blacked out games on the SF mix channel. That alone is worth the extra cash for me.

myself and a bunch of others got the superfan package for free with the sunday ticket two years ago. it seemed like all you had to do give them a call, complain about something (the sf package had a lot of glitches the year before this -- the first year it came out) and they gave it to you for free. last year was a totally different story. i called and asked if i were to be getting it for free again and they basically told me i was s.o.l.

i didn't realize ei sf was only $50, though. isn't the sunday ticket sf package $100??

Is this just happening so far this season, or did it happen last season also? I am currently able to see full games on EI channels (in HD even) that are supposed to be blacked out. I wondered if DTV is not doing the correct settings for blackouts during this free preview.

I didn't have it last year.... I'm getting blackouts (even teams that aren't on an RSN or in my area), but can see them on 720.

I was just counting the HD games for the week and there are about 60 and that doesn't include the double feeds of home and away announcers. That would put it closer to 80. Good job D*.
