so i'm looking at 3 different Sony LCD's. the 40" xbr4, the 46" w3000, and the 46" v3000. or possibly another sony model in the same price range as these if you think another one is better. I don't really watch to much tv, mainly just game with the 360 and PS3 and watch movies and blu-ray. Is the XBR4 that much better than the other models to make the size difference between the 40" and 46" worth going to ? which of the 3 sets do you prefer ?

well the xbr does have the 120hz where the other models don't. it also has the bravia engine pro (better definition and sharper). And a better contrast ratio. Plus the better sound system. I love the xbr line and think it is worth the money.

Why limit to just the Sony? There are many other less proprietary companies out there that has a superior display.

I get a pretty decent discount on Sony items, so i can get it for cheaper than most other models of same size and specs.

Then I would go to a store and compare them after adjusting the picture settings to the best they can each be and let your eyes be the judge of which is the best "bang for the buck" PQ. We all have opinions about which is the best value but that is a personal decision and should be based on what YOU see and hear with them.

Happy hunting.

If you're planning to play and movies, go with the W3000. I just got mine exactly for that and I'm very happy with the set (although mine is the 40" -- european home ;) ).

The X is a great set, but I couldn't justify to myself the price difference for my needs...

XBR is the best of the Sonys...go with that one...we have the V3000 at work and I like my Toshiba at home better...more adjustability, although I can't comment on the W8000, I know XBRs look fantastic...just stay away from the V series and you should be fine.

I agree. All the Sony products that I've owned have pooped out long before they should have.

Well the PQ on the 40XBR4 is fantastic, but if you want a larger screen then a small downgrade to the 46V3000 seems perfectly reasonable to me. But I'd really watch both and see which you like more. Personally I'd probably go with the higher quality set (the KDL-40XBR4)

46 inch will be the best choice, xbr is good but not at expense of bigger set.

You didn't mention what room it was for or how far back you plan on sitting, so I'll default to the recommendation that you go with the bigger size display. If you can't afford the XBR version for the larger size than stick with the W or V series at the larger size.

I agree. All the Sony products that I've owned have pooped out long before they should have. When it comes to TVs, I've had the opposite experience. The Sony's have served well for a long time. I don't care much for their music players or A/V receivers, but their TVs are still top-notch.

Ditto, long before they should have, especially their TV's and receivers.

If you want to look at the specs & manuals (PDF downloads)
go here... just type-in the Model Number in the upper right
of the webpage:
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-home.pl?mdl=KDL40S3000&LOC=3

For Reviews of a SONY Model... go to AMAZON DOT COM
and type-in the make/model in the SEARCH BOX.
Then, read the reviews there... there will be tons of
reviews by actual SONY OWNERS.

Don't be mislead by the 'packs' prowling the boards here...

I have a 56" samgsung lcd dlp, and a 52" xbr4. The quality of both these tv's are awesome i have to say. I spent a lot of time comparing all of the sony's to each other before i bought the xbr, and the xbr is no doubt the best in my opinion. So i say get the xbr.
