Who has a headset for gaming?

I'm thinking of getting one (have been the past year, at least) and so I'm curious how many people out there have one.

Thanks for your participation!

I have one, but I mainly use it to mute everyone else in COD4. It is only fun when you are playing with friends. Then it becomes a great feature. Get one. Just not a moto.

Which one do you recommend for the ps3? I should say I'm looking for one that automatically connects each time you start it up. Doesn't cause that annoying echo. Also one with decent quality but not more than $50.

Thanks

I got two headsets (1xfreebie with Warhawk, other from my cell phone) for the PS3, and one for the 360.

EDIT: My bad, I should read before I comment.

I don't think any automatically start up unless you go USB, which is your best choice depending on where you sit and where your PS3 is.

BT wise, anything Plantronics is going to be great. Jabras can be had for $15 and they are better than the $50 motos.

I think he might mean stays synched when he turns the headset on.

I thought they all stayed synched.

any blutooth headset will work on the ps3. just walk into the cell phone section and look for the better made models.

i have a ps3 headset but i don't use it at all. although i did try it out but i ended up not liking it much. i got it from gamestop for a fairly cheap price but i don't recomend anyone buying it from there.

i also don't suggest anyone buying the wireless xbox360 headset. it's maybe the worst of all the headsets out. i lose connection so much that it sucks for not only me but the people i'm talking with. the headset is supposed too have some internal timer which starts when it doesn't hear you talking. after a set ammount of time the timer turns off the mic so you don't waste the battery. well the timer is junk so it allways turns off on its own no matter how much you talk.

the 360 mic that comes with the system is good but it looks funny. my girl cracks up everytime she sees me with it on. i also get on my brother joking, "Do you want fries with that" or "I'll take a #6 with a large fry and a coke".

at first i didn't use my mic but once i started i found the online experience to be so much better. it's so easy playing COD4 when you can talk to eachother. that definetly helps teams win games. it's also so much fun talking trash with sports games. i love facing some guy who talks trash the whole game only to get his azz handed to him late in the game. the best part of that is knowing he has a mic and he is completely silent, isn't it ironic that the best part of useing these mics is shutting someone up.

I sit about 5 to 6 feet from my PS3. Would you recommend a BT headset or just a standard USB headset from Logitech or some other company? Having owned my 360 for a year and a half, im very used to the headset that plugs right into the controller. I wish Sony had incoorporated that into its controller for its PS3.

Me too. I would go with a USB with a nice long cord.

I've used a headset for years, a must have if you game online. I prefer players that have a headset verses non at all. The original ones that come with the system are ok, but prefer the Plantronics. I actually bought a new Halo2 edition for around 5 bucks on eBay, works great.

Headsets are a must for team based games. I use the basic HS that comes with 360. Does the arcade/core comes with HS?

I want one but my fiancee will begin to call me names....I can't blame her. I wouldn't be able to use one around her and I won't be able to use it at night since I would wake her up. So the only time I'd be able to use one would be during my lunch break for 20 minutes (work from home) or on the weekends when I can send her off to do some errands or something.

I dont know about the arcade version, but the core as far as I know doesnt include the headset.

I have a headset, but I usually don't use it because I'm playing games while my wife and 3 year old are sleeping.

Also, I don't want to hear everyone telling me how much I suck.

Also don't know about the arcade, but the premium/core what ever you want to call it comes w a headset. It white and has the controls for volume and muting right where it plugs in. I prefer it to the Elite's black headset that has the controls on the cord part like a set of headphones.

I don't have a headset for the PS3 yet because I don't play anything online except UR3 and I just get my shiat rocked so I don't need it.

I personally think the basic 360 headset is just fine, since it plugs into the controller I don't notice it at all.

+1 on this. Now here's my question. I've got voices coming through my speakers. All through the center channel. I can't shut them off for some reason. I've even tried turning down the voices in the options pane before starting a game or during a game. Still I get immature butt-darts screaming/singing/whatevering at the top of their lungs.

And plus one for the craptastical motorolla headphones. As some people can attest to this past weekend, I had many issues trying to get the damn thing to work. I think it kept shutting itself off, but then wouldn't remember to turn itself back on. Could also be a problem with the battery, but still.

Easy fix. Hook up your PS3 headset, and stick it on the coffee table:lol: All the voices will go to the headset and you will not hear them. I had a hard time playing with my kids around because of that kind of crap. PSN is getting as bad as live. Well, almost;)

That is where mine gets most of it's use.

yes thats one option of doing it. however for people that do not have a headset at all are stuck with it. the voices of other players will come out through the tv/speakers no matter what, even if you put the voice volume all the way down like i have my. this is why im looking forward to the upate which should be released very very soon. they added the option to mute players.

Actually, the core system doesnt come with a headset. Or should I say "didnt" (the core system was discontinued) id lay out some links but this site doesnt allow them to work for some reason. Just google it.

I guess i don't know what the core system is then? Was that the one that was wired and was the lower end when the 360 came out?

Anyways, the arcade does NOT come with a headset, the premium or Pro as it is called now and the Elite DO come with headsets.

What Jabra model would you suggest? Or are all Jabra's the same quality...it just depends on the extra bells and whistles that will determine price??

Would be easy. My headset doesn't work that well. It shuts off automatically and of course then the voices come through the speakers. Even with the boom out. It's a piece of crap and goes to show what others were saying about the Moto ones.

When I was playing the other night, the voices only came through the headset for about 10% of the time. All the other times, they came through the speaker. Sux.

I was just reading a review about that particular model on Cnet and they basically said its a nice entry level model. Someone also mentioned that there were some volume issues with it. That in order to hear well with it, one must turn the volume to max. How is the model working out for you if I may ask?

its working out beyond exceptional!. i use to have a moto H300, alittle cheapo thing that i paid too much for($50) i purchased it way back in like dec 2006. it sucked! used AAA battery.

the jabra i have now works amazing, the volume lvl is killer, i cant keep it at max , i have to have it at least 1 or 2 beeps below max volum or else its too loud. the voice is crystal clear through it too. it might be a entry level but whatever, why would you want to get a $100 fancy bluetooth for your PS3. maybe for your cell phone but just get a basic BT headset for your PS3. if you go with moto you have to get the expensive models like the H700's like F91 has. anything below like a H500 is crap for the PS3. it'll be cutting out on you all the time. my jabra has NOT once cut out on me during play(resistance, cod4 and warhawk) and i've had my since september. charge last long in it too. i've charged my up about 4 times TOTAL since september.

also another note on the volume. dont forget you can adjust the volume via PS3 accessory settings. i keep my at 5 and 5 (you'll know what i mean when you see the setting) and i got +2 voice changer so i dont sound to deep. the deeper you sound the harder it is to make our what your saying.

Ok. I'm going to say it. I was going to be polite, but I'm going to say it anyway. When we were all playing Saturday night, SOMEONE sounded like a 10 year old. I couldn't tell who it was. I was too busy getting shot/knifed/fragged or otherwise dispatched.

It wasn't you was it from changing your voice? And is it just me or is the voicechat on PSN much more "tinny and electronic" than it was on Live. I remember people actually sounding like would normally sound.

Interesting results of the poll so far. 3 times of many 360 (vs PS3) owners have the headset and use it; whereas 3 times as many PS3 (vs 360) owners don't have headset.

Maybe its just because im used to the 360 system, but I just think its a bit more "user friendly" then the PS3 as far as the mic and friends interfaces go.

HAHAHAHAHA. that was probably me. the voice changer allows you to have a deeper or a lighter voice. i have it set to a lighter voice cause i find it alittle easier to understand.. i'll change it to +1 though since its set to +2 now. people on live sound more "normal" because theres no voice changer. the PS3 has the option for voice changer so it appears people are using it.. it alters their voice to sound deeper or lighter. the deeper the older you sound to a point that all you hear is mumble. with a lighter voice you sound younger, but too light and you sound like a 6yr old HHAHAAHAH.
