Going Crazy need help please!! Samsung & HD-DVR BOX

We bought a Vizio 37" VX37L. We hooked it up to the Scientific Atlanta HD-DV-R box and put it on Component 1. The picture was awesome, but there was a loud buzzing noise and would get louder as you turned up the volume. Also, ever so often you'd see a purplish line start midway and scroll up the t.v. So... we took it back to Circuit City today and got a 40" Samsung LNT4042HX. My husband hooked it up to the SA box with component cables, put the t.v. on Component 1 and just like with the Vizio there's a buzzing noise and huge chunks of purple and green lines running all through the screen. My husband went to Target and bought a HDMI cable to see if this would fix the problem, but the t.v. gives an error box telling us we can't use DVI/HDMI. It's something with Comcast I think. He tried another set of component cables from Walmart, nope same noise and color distortion. We're amateurs with this but I would think trying to hook up a HDTV to a HD box would be simple. What in the world are we doing wrong? Please help! :helpme :banghead: :helpme

Contact Comcast as it is an issue with the box.

But they do give service on boxes using Component cable, which is what you said you were using.

Could we have a "failure to communicate" here?

Perhaps Comcast misunderstood you and thought you were having a problem with HDMI cables.

How about calling them again, and telling them that you have tried 2 TVs with two different sets of component cables and are having exactly the same problem.

I had the same problem when i bought my tv along with
hdbox but I had a purple line all that would travel up the screen
along with a slight buzzing sound, at first I thought it was the
cables aswell but after trying a few different cables I thought it was the tv until I bought a new powerbar that had connection for my
ANT. IN then I ran another cable from the powerbar to the hdtv box
and the box is connected to the tv with component cables. Works like a charm now, seems the problem was a ground fault loot the powerbar grounds the connection and solves the problem.

Goodluck....

I will bet even money that (1) IF the Comcast installer grounded the cable line coming into your house, it's on an isolated separate ground, and (2) that separate ground is NOT bonded to the main house electrical ground, as required by code. Therefore, a hum induced by a classic "ground loop"
