Will an HMDI connection from a Blu Ray to my reciever give me the same quality sound as a fiber optic/digital coax cable? Better? Worse?

I've always run a fiber optic cable to my reciever and the HDMI to the TV. I thought this was the best connection possible.

Please enlighten me!

It will give you the same digital audio quality as diital optical and coax for Dolby digital 5.1 and DTS. But HDMI can handle the higher bandwith/bitstream with needed lossless audio codec like Dolby True HD and DTS HD ect. Optical/coax can not. So depending on what you want to do, it is as good or better...
